Looking to build or buy a fully built x4/951 conversion ski..I'd settle for a 787 modded ski if It was nice.

Anyone have a insite or advise? All will be appreciated.

I didn't come up with a price range I guess I really don't have one.. If I see something I like I'm gonna buy it.. Feel free to post pics or message me wateva..

Just my 2 cents....

I would trust a properly mod'ed/built 800 engine over a stock 951.

yes, i would trust one more as well, but only until you ride the x4 with a 951 and then you say to yourself... "holy crap ! screw dependibility ! I gotta get one of these."

Whats the prices on the 951's spim i have been thinking of getting one

depends on the mods, your probably looking between 3K and 4K at a minimum since there is a ton of work involved.

the one I drove two weeks ago, was literally scary fast, but boy oh boy did I want to take it home !
it really made my ski feel slow.
and i'm sure he'd turn down 4K but he's got $1500 invested in just carbs and pipe alone.

It made me start looking for a project x4 hull, so I can prep it for a 951, the next 951 ski that I find is having the motor pulled and i'll set that dam engine set aside for ME !

so.. who's got a clean x4 bare bones hull sitting around in Florida ?

Honestly....

That little X4 hull isn't much fun holding it wide open. It's an absolute blast playing in choppy water, and getting wet... but if we are talking all out top speed... that's not the hull to start with.

I am building(getting operational again) two race 787's that should hang with or beat a 951 conversion. It's just gonna take expensive race fuel and shorter engine life. Really I am more excited in beating off brands like Yamaha and Kawaski. If some guy has a faster ski after spending the time and money to do the conversion then he deserves it. I like the dedication to stay on a X4 hull.

not much fun wide open? it's scary as all hell! I think a 4x8 piece of plywood with an outboard would be more stable. :)

I wasn't talking top speed myself, although it does have tremendous top speed, but, the holeshot and leaping ability of the x4 with a 951 is quite amazing there is just so much dam power.

personally I thought I was doing really good with my 787 until I tried a better, faster 951 model with the same hull, but everything comes with a price.

even with my 787 I can most definitely hold my own against most modded 2 strokes and any stock 2 stroke, at least out of the hole and the first few hundred yards, but then a faster hull can run me down. With a 951 your so far ahead that a faster hull will give up long before they start to run you down.

honestly, getting back on track to the OP, you have to invest a minimum of 2.5K into a x4 to mod it up right with a 787, the baseline with a 951 takes that over 3K and upwards to 4K real quick.

for some people that 1500 gap is wayyy to much to spend, for others, its just another check to write. All depends on the budget, and the mechanical ability of the person wanting a conversion, doing all of this yourself take's a lot of time, tools, and some real know-how, paying somebody with those credentials can get very very costly very very fast.

two quotes that i've always loved:

Speed is expensive: how fast do you want to spend ?

Fast, Reliable, Cheap: Pick Two...

Fast, Reliable, Cheap: Pick Two.... That is so true. I can do all the work myself, I can snipe the best deals on everything, but I cannot get around that truth.

Spimothy, id like to get either one. if u could post some pics or email me thatd be great.. If I got my hands on a 951 thatd be cool but Id settle for a modded 800.. I make good money n want a new toy so I don't mind spending if it's done rite. I aways had n loved x4 hull skis, not that the new ones are bad cause I love the rxp's an the X's.. But I have a lot more fun on my stock 95 Xp.. I been riding this Xp for the past 7 summers and delt with minor bull$shi+ problems.. I do alot of wake jumping and Rec riding donuts tail stands ect. N would love to get a 800 or 951.. So anything anyone can do or refur somebody who does this kinda work would b great.. Sorry for rambling on..

i wish you were in florida, i know just the guy. If your in NY I think i know of a guy i can put you in touch with that can do the project, or find you one. i've emailed him just not 100% sure if he's in NY or if my memory is wrong.

i'm contemplating building one myself but, well, that's wrong, having one built for me, while I hold the flashlight and hand him the right tools, its over my head, it comes with a price tag, i've already located a hull that's been prepped for the motor mounts and shaved for the pipe, but hasn't been cut in the back for the pump yet, but from beginning to end (with life in between) it will be a 3 month project, and if I try to stay under a 3K budget it might take longer as i get stuck on parts. The problem with the project is that the only thing i'll accomplish is getting a better version of my modded 787 x4, so its redundant,

it might make sense to gear my efforts and benjamins toward a used rxp that will have enough power to keep me happy, and the storage and fuel capacity that will allow me to make it my long distance cruiser.

but just for giggles, i'll share my vision, taking an x4 hull stripping it to nothing and painting it high gloss black including coating the inside with a contrast color so its mint, factory new, 951 with mod head, pipe, pump/prop, proks, umi, beach house, oversized fuel tank. (probably missing something)

Price tag with no labor between 3K (under budget) 4.5K (extreme) really just depends on how much to spend on the carb's and pipe, you can add $1000-1500 to a project quite easily.

i did ask my buddy that has a modded x4 with a 951 how much he had in it and it was over 4K not counting labor but the thing is a beast !

bottom line, i'd be surprised if you could have one built for less than 3K, you'd probably be better off just finding a complete machine that's been souped up within a 250 mile radius, they do pop up on CL every now and then.

Get ahold of Wayne at Wet Werx...If there is anything in the NY area he would know.

yip, just finished discussing this with Wayne...(i was 99% sure he was in NY, just not 100%) getting ready to forward the contact info to the OP. He's pretty much done anything or everything that can be done with the X4, and if I wasn't cheap, i'd write him a blank check and tell him to go to town !

I agree. The great Waniac is a X4 drag racer's worst nightmare. "pinks" ..... dosen't that mean he keeps your boat after he smokes you?

you got that right,,, nothing better than watching an x4 toast some punk on his daddy's rxp...

we had a guy a few weeks ago that wanted to race with his 4 stroke, and i pointed him to the guy on the 951x4 (big time sleeper ski) and said,, "if you beat him, you can race me" poor fella, 50 yards into the race and it was all over ....

Just scored on a 951 rx for $500. Going to start going over everything and start planning this conversion out..

The guy I bought it from thought the motor was locked up.. I pulled the pump n drive shaft put a new battery and little carb spray.. She kicked rite over..

nice...locked up pump. Score.

Well with all that money you can buy this 14v skat pump I have out of a RXX!
