Looking for more acceleration from 95 XP 720

What’s the go to combo for better acceleration on the 720 XP? The ski was pretty rough on the outside but I’ve taken care of that lol. The ski is bone stock mechanical wise. Just looking for tried and true must do mods. Thanks in advance for any help.

Head, pipe, and carbs. I'd leave it stock though and get a 787 XP/SPX if you want to mod one. Will make a lot more power reliably than a 717.

An 800 might be in my future but I’m not a huge fan of the all yellow bodies. The 95 XP 720 is the best looking X4 IMO. SPX’s don’t come up for sale that often in my area. What about impellers, intake grates, nozzles, things like that for acceleration gains? Any gains to be found with a higher compression head?

You just aren't going to get much more out of that 720 with reliability.
Stock impeller is really good so not much at all to gain from an aftermarket one. Make sure it isn't worn or damaged and the wear ring is nice and tight.
Intake grate will allow better hookup in rough water but will cost top-speed on smooth water.
Nozzle won't really do much at all.
More compression will give you a little more snap out of the hole.

It is a really fun ski as is, enjoy it for what it is and look for a 1997 or 1998 SPX if you like the white hull.

Do you have any suggestions on an aftermarket head? What cc of domes I’d need to keep it pump gas friendly? What squish am I looking for? I’m new to the seadoo world but not new to two strokes. Can a guy just run a thinner base gasket and or head gasket? Thanks

The 717 is 85 HP, 787 is 110hp. The 787 is more reliable, has the RAVE valve system, and my fav motor. As long as I’ve been in these engines, not a lot to do with the 717. Change impeller? No, because if you look for more speed, you’ll take it from the bottom end, bogging motor cause not enough torque for increased pitch. The most important thing in rebuilding these, is your squish gap. Needs to be close as possible, to maximize horsepower. Intake grate, not much, unless you pump up the motor. Aftermarket’s designed to minimize cavitation, not increase power. Best to do, outside dumping money into a race motor, just ride it and enjoy!

Low end would be 1.3mm but the lower you get the increased risk of detonation.

Worse yet is Seadoo has discontinued the base gaskets in different thicknesses to adjust squish and aftermarket only make the large ones.

You measure without a base gasket then determine what size gasket you need to get the proper squish number.

You can reach out to this guy and see what sizes he makes... WORLD CHAMP PROVEN GASKETS made fresh daily for EVERY 2 stroke YAM-KAW-SEADOO.Also A/M parts gaskets
1.3mm seems huge, I’m used to like 0.4ish mm squish
