Looking for a 4Tec

You made a good choice on the ski, looks very nice.

The spots on the seat are not mildew. This is a common problem on the white seadoo seats in that time frame. Unfortunately, the spots won't come off and they will get worse with time. You may also develop some pink spots and blotches as well which is common. If you were still under warranty and complained enough, seadoo would give you a new seat. The only real fix is to put an aftermarket cover on it.

That's a neat idea - I'll have to look at how the studs fall inside. Yes, I'll be doing the work. The materials list isn't looking too bad and existing hardware could be re-used.

If you go with the Dutch door solution, you can keep the look of the doors and reduce your materials list.

Crosscut the doors right down the center of the middle horizontal rail. Build your 6" extension so they are under the windows. Sister support rails on the bottom and the center and reapply the siding on the exterior of the extension. Use hidden hinges on the new extensions and the existing hinges just for the look.

I went with a slightly altered version of your dutch door plan. I opted to do a single, wider dutch door on one side which saved some work and materials. However, this ended up making clearances pretty tight all around, as seen below...

You can see the bracing I added as well as some 3/8" threaded rod bracing the double 2x4 to an overhead beam that spans the width of the building. Between this and reinforcing all stud joints with 4" wood screws, I didn't have any sag and both main doors close perfectly. I haven't perfected a hinge mechanism yet that allows the small door to swing out completely parallel to the outside . It got cold and dark on me tonight so I just screwed the door back in the doorway. I may just pin the small door in and take it out completely when I need it. That way I keep a flush look on the outside with no hinges - still thinking through that.

I just hope It was worth the trouble for this newer, lower trailer...

Thanks for the input! Cheers!

Very cool!

And as long as it clears, the dimensions are fine.

I like your "pin" idea. The outside look should not change at all - right?

How about a picture of the exterior.

I'll grab a picture of the outside of the shed once I get the hatch door finished. It's a little rough fitting right now.

It was 70 degrees yesterday so I took the ski to the lake to check it out before the season (and I was itching to ride it). For the most part, everything was great! IBR is fantastic...wow. This ski definitely has more get-up and go than my old one. I could tell it drinks the fuel a lot quicker though.

I did have a random rattle/vibration when I first started off under throttle. It sounded and felt like something was out of whack in the drive train then all of a sudden it cleared itself up and was smooth as can be for an hour of riding. I noticed it before when I cranked it out of water but didn't think much of it, figuring it was normal for out of water. See the GoPro clip below of when the vibration went away. It's subtle in the video:

change your spark plugs. that's how it will act when a plug is going out, it will surge back to life but then it will go out again so just change them. very common issue.

could also be something stuck in the pump that got cleared out, kind of hard to tell from the clip but always a good idea to change plugs since they are a common failure.

Makes sense. It never came back the entire ride. The previous owner did say it was time to do that before this next season. I was going to do that and change the oil at the same time - to bring it to a baseline maintenance schedule before this season starts.

So the GTI uses more fuel than the GTX DI? I would have thought the 4tec would be pretty efficient.

Nice ski btw, looking at getting a 4tec myself after years of hassle free (touch wood) 2 stroke riding. The only thing that kind of bothers me is the size/weight of these things. Do the GTI's get heavier each year? For example, is this GTI heavier that say the 2008 GTI model?

I love to jump waves and do tricks so I might keep my XPL for that if I can, but it would be great to find a ski that will do that, as well as cruise.

Just remembered something I meant to ask after the first ride on this thing: Is there a way to display the tach and speed at the same time on the "dumb" instrument cluster of the GTI's? Like say, swap the compass data for an always on tach? I saw the X-module online but that just seems to add additional GTX displays to the cluster...which I may end up doing anyways. Or is this the reason you pay more for a GTR or GTX? Just curious if I missed something.
