Hi,

sorry to start new thread but found what might be the boat and need fast answers.

I got him down to 4200 bucks trying for 4000.
the boat has some cosmetic issues like:

1. open holes PO made which need to be filled around bottom of rear bench and drivers side where old bimini was has 2 phillips head covered by gel coat and broken screw partilly sticking out.
2. armrests driver and passenger side missing
3. broken gas gauge(not big deal but would be nice to have working)
4. instrument pannel appeares to painted and flaking. needs to be sanded and re-painted.(easy to disassemble??)
4. Not sure its a bad thing and previous threads are mixed in opinion on oil injector system? He said it was connected at the bottom and he premixes 1Q oil oil w/fill up?? is that even the right pre mix ratio??

so I'm calling in the experts on thought on good buy or not.
Will ask for a sea trial to make sure boat dosen't sink lol

any idea on where to source/cost armrest cushions?? which he redid in grey color

discontinued on the armrest, so need to find off ebay/craigslist.

As for oil ratio, if the pumps are hooked up, think the previous owner is being cautious, no harm with that.

All other items, with problems, no need to worry about for now.

^thanks for the comment.
I called dealer to check price on armrest and over 500 bucks for them :(

So no worries on adding quart of oil w/fill up even though oil injection system connected to the bottom only(whats the difference up/down injected)

any ideas on the instrument pannel where gauges sit in as diy fix(prime/paint)
or get new??

otherwise does it seem as a good deal??

yup, good deal. Thought the arms were discontinued, sorry. But dont take the dealer word for it, most time, when you call, they say, yeah, only to find out, they cant get the part. Have them look for it, make sure it can be bought, then decide, if you still want boat.

^:drool5:
Too late
Get sea test tomorrow.

Figure I could make something with plastic and cover in vinyl and srcrw it in from the bottom..need to be creative.

For the holes I think they sell gelcoat filler puddy? in off white so will try that on those holes.

Only concern is learning the ration 40:1 right.
What does that equal to in gallons?
Or double the ratio in four 5 gal jugs and then top off other 20 gallons at the pump.
I think he said it is a 40 gal tank? Which gauge is broken but I figure I could just look to see if it's full :svengo:

Thanks for the responses.
Hopefully I can contuine to search instead of posting WTF happened threads like have been happening :grouphug:

Let's see how the sea trial goes...

^i would rep you but I figure my rating isn't higher enough.
thanks again.
Will update with pics if as is well.
Is there a diy on gelcoat refinishing? Seadoo decals were removed and have different color gel coat. Maybe a wet sand or just polish and buffer?

My driver side arm rest is missing and you can hardly tell. The area looks fine and i dont even notice its not there. I have the original one but the plastic is broken on the back of it.

Yeah it looks clean with out it but one side has holes and other has studs sticking up :banghead:

Otherwise pretty good I think for four grand.
Said wear rings both replaced few months back and reverse cable for reverse working.

Feel bad for other guy looking for 9 foot cable to match :banghead:

Is there a reference to cross matching models for parts if 99 speedster?

Speedsters/challengers too long, and that cable, i dont think, will "give" to that extent. Matter fact, just put one in a 97challenger 1800, and that bi$@#, was not fun.

Sorry hit it twice.

Any polishing techniques/ products for gel coat?

Yeah you can buff it out fialry easy. did mine a couple months ago and it cleaned up to look almost new. With the missing arm rest, I have little black plug lookin things in the holes. Like what auto makers use. Cant even really tell that something should be there.

40/1 = 16oz to 5gal.

Was looking into what PO did for premixing and ran across this and wanted to know if 32:1 ratio would be better to avoid fouling plugs. and how much less oill to gal then??

I am thinking about switching to premix, what all do I have to do to get that accomplished?

Here is what I assuming...
1-remove white plastic gear off the inside of the the oil pump so the crankshaft doesnt turn it anymore.
2-remove the oil feed line to the oil pump (the one with the filter) and plug the grommet/fitting at the oil resevoir (or should i just leave the line in place?)
3-assuming the oil resevoir must remain fill due to the crancase oil system, does that actually circulate?
4-Add premix to the gas tank (I'm assuming I can run the current oil in the resevoir for crankcase, and a different oil in the gas tank since they wont be mixing)

What is the premix ratio??? and how do you mix it (in the gas tank, or in a separate container and then pour it into gas tank)

Would this foul out plugs quicker since you are getting the same oil/gas mix at idle as you do at WOT???

What is meant by a "cooked motor" what are the symptoms/signs

and replied

Block off kit for $15, premix oil in a 5-gallon can so you can agitate it and mix it good, i think they have it dialed in at 32:1.

You will still need to have the tank and oil in the ski to lube the engine.

Is there a link to diy with pictures? want to see what/were the gear is and how the hoses should look like.

Thank you

the oil pump is located under the carb. Remove it, and install the block kit. The little oil lines from the pump, remove those and cap off the fittings (caps are supplied in kit), then remove the oil line with the filter inline, from the tank, and cap it off.

32/1 is richer in oil than 40/1.

40:1 then don't want to smoke up :) Thanks you again

think the neighbors/people at lake wont care, since ur ridding the mesquitos...:biggrinjester:

would be nice to be on lake.
Boat is salt only :puke:

Section of houses across road where I live in have connecting 3 lake area which allow power boats. Only place in south florida where that is allowed :patriot:

been seaching every section of fourms to be prepared for what is instore :piggy::piggy:

NO Sale.
Cavitation
drivers engine had trouble starting and no power. Would rev at 7000  and no go.
But power from other had it going ~30mph??

He's going to get it checked out and call me for another sea trail.

any thoughts about a Yamaha 97 Exciter 220 $4000
or a 98 16' seadoo that has 2 seats in the back and 2 swivel chair w/seating in the front?? havent seen this config.

could just be a 40 dollar wear ring part, then all is good.

lets see. both engines at the end starting cavitating bad. had to limp back to boat ramp.
he had cleared some grass from underneath and worked better for a minute but not that much.
one engine was white and other was silver? I asked him about it and he said it came that way. gave me excuse is to differentiate R and L engines
(excuse my non boat nomenclature)

I found the info onth 98 speedster $4500 is a 5 seater twin 110(757?). So they are twin carb?? was told by guy buying from they are more difficult than say the 85hp(727?) single carb??

sorry for all the noob Q's

could I get pointed in the right direstion to find a carburetor for the
1999 Sportster 1800 85 hp engine. I found one but needs carb. If I could borrow(pay deposit) or offer owner of boat chance to buy it to fix his I would persure this one more. person asking $4300.

98 Speedster is what I have. I am kinda biased, but I have said numerous time I think it is the best all around smaller boat made. You get 4 true individual seats, and twin 110 HP motors. 787 motors. Probably one of the most reliable motors made. They are a blast. If it is in good shape Thats a good price.

^so don't be concerned w/twin carb's?

anything to look for??
so no one rides in the front? other ads say capacity 5 but you mention 4??

please read my post above for edited content?
looking for carb to test 99 sportster 1800 85 hp thats missing one :banghead:

$4300 for one that suppossedly just needs a carb? I would stay away from that. IF its missing a carb, what else is the previous owner trying to hide. I think boats that need work or are missing parts tend to be boats that have been neglected.

The 98 is technically a 5 seater, but like all the sea doo boats, there is no way i would ride someone up there. I let people sit there sometimes if we are going really slow, but no way while going fast.

^cool thanks

5/4 still seems small for our family compared to what I tested this morning.
Might have to wait and see what went wrong.
~ same money for smaller boat/110 vs 85 hp :piggy:
