i seam to be having a problem with my key staying on the stalk ... its weird sometimes it works and stays on and sometimes it doesnt stay on ... my luck i was speeding through a trail when it decided to pop off i lost all power all steering all everything but i did not loose my speed or direction and went smacking into the flat and landed about 55 feet onto dry land which btw is not fun attempting to push your ski on basically quick sand thats loaded with all sorts of fun stuff and everyone standing and watching :lols: . is this corrected by replacing the stalk? or the key? both?

Not sure if you have the DESS or not but on mine without the DESS, it just needed a new lanyard and everything is good to go.

more than likely the key but a small cable tie is very effective and cheap, a new key and programming that key is gona set you back upwards of £100

If i remember correctly your ski dosent have a DESS style key.....You can tell by looking into the lanyard and if there is a metal plate in the lanyard then its a DESS style key ....if you dont see the metal piece then just purchase a new lanyard for 15 bucks and you will be fine

Yes I do not think it's a DESS style key the stalkbis more of a button I can hold the button down and it will start without having the key it comes in handy when you left the key in the car when putting the ski back on the trailer so you guys think it's the key and not the stalk?

Have two 94's non-DESS with same problem. I bought the $15 universal replacement lanyards from Academy and they would not stay on either. I ordered two OEM SeaDoo Lanyards (more expensive) and when I went to pick them up, they parts breakdown drawing indicated a "Safety Switch Nut" that screws over the stalk of the saflety switch where it comes through the hole in the dash. (My shop manual drawings do not show this to be two pieces {Switch and Nut}, only the safety switch.

Anyway, Bought two of the nuts to go with the new lanyards-Work Great, Lanyard SNAPS on now-tight and stays on. Nuts were $10 ea and the lanyards were $34 ea. at an independent Dealership here. Just FYI and good luck.

Is there a part number on those safety nuts

Yessir, but I won't be back in town until Suday night. I'll send it to you then. The actual name in the SeaDoo parts list is "Safety Switch Nut" in case you try to find it before I get back. I have you on my list-POPS

Zip tie works great!

Be careful with the zip-tie. It will work, but if you make the tension to high... you will break the top of the post off.

Anyway... yes... the old plunger switch style posts wear. SO... buy a new "Nut" (it's the top half of the post) and buy a new lanyard. I found that the Atlantis lanyards work very good, and they are in the $15~$18 range.

If you do that... they won't randomly pop off.

I forgot to mention that my $15 Academy universal lanyards will work now that I have put the new "Nuts" on the switches. They stay on all the time but do not latch on as tightly as the expensive SeaDoo lanyard cups do. Who cares, fight? Since you've already bought new lanyards, try the new safety switch nuts before you pay out for more lanyards.

Checked the SEADOOWHAREHOUSE.com link on this page. The 96 SPX Electrical Accessories drawing shows the nut to be number 9 and costs $4.49. I will still send you the seadook part number for my skis Sunday pm.

OEM: NUT-SAF.SWITCH P/N 27800099. mattydipps, this piece is the black plastic "stalk" looking piece you see on your Dashboard with the kill switch button sticking up out of it. If you reach under your dash and hold your Safety kill Switch still to keep if from turning, you can just unscrew the round black plastic "stalk" you see. That 1/2 - 5/8 inch tall piece is the "NUT" Good Luck-POPS

Got a cheap JET LOGICS lanyard and i had the same problem....so i put a peice of heatshrink tubing on the lanyard post and shrunk it on and i never had the problem again!!! Wow talk about a cheap fix!
