Just purchased a 96' GSX

I just purchased a 96' GSX that's in great condition.

I had the local watercraft shop (whom I know the owners) check it out before I purcahsed it. They checked it over throughly and said they wouldn't have any problem giving them what they were asking for it.

The only "problems" it has are the typical trim motor problem, no biggie and the LCD gauge is broken, the mechaincs/owners said they wouldn't worry about either one of those things unless it just really bugged me. I may or may not fix the trim unit but my real question is about the LCD gauge.

I've seen them on ebay and craigslist from $150-$500 (asking prices) do I really need it?

I'm not worried about the fuel gauge since there is a reserve and if I don't fix the trim that won't matter?

What else does that gauge display?
What's your opinions on fixing it?
Whqat years/models (if any) will interchange? The factory part number is 278000817

Info gage...

That year info gage is specific to that one model. There is no cross references for it.

I have one on my GTX and really, rarely use it. My speedo is on the right and tach on the left. Those are my main gages.

I dont' know what it is about craigslist but people really seem to like that place. I've known to many people who have gotten screwed. There are posts in our buy/sale and trade section of members complaining about it.

Go to ebay and look for a member/ebay store called "great lakes skipper". I don't know if he's still there but I've done business with him in the past. He deals in junked skis/boats. He parts them out and puts the parts up on ebay. On ebay, try to use the search engine to find him. Send him a email and ask him if he's got one. That's the only one on ebay I'd trust.

Obsolete/discontinued..... These older skis/boats are really hard to find parts for so make sure you take what you have, clean it up and preserve it best you can because finding replacements will be really hard.........:cheers:

I bought that exact year model last night. How much did you spend if you dont mind? Mine has 160hrs and I paid 2000$ with the trailer.
