Hi all,

I just purchased a 1997 Challenger 1800. 18' twin 2 stroke engine.

Anyone familiar with the boat? If so, any advise out there as to what to do and not to do. I am not very familiar with a jet propelled boat in general. Its currently in great shape, so i want to keep it that way.

I guess general maintainance is my greatest concern. Better I do that than it be in the shop...as I am sure everyone agrees.

Thanks!

General Maintenance

I don't have a Challenger, but I think my 97 GTX has the same 787 engine. After sitting in the garage for two years, I just worked on it to get it going again. Get a copy of the Shop Manual for 97 and it will give you all the instructions you need. Use the search function and you'll find some detailed instructions as well. Hope this helps and enjoy your boat:hurray:

I spent a lot of time reading numerous posts to figure out what all I needed to do. Started by replacing the gray fuel lines, fuel filter, and inline oil filter. Cleaned the RAVEs including new gaskets and O-Rings. Replaced the oil filter and new oil lines to the carbs. Changed the jet pump oil and got a new battery. After all this, i found a local SeaDoo mechanic who cleaned the carbs and put in new diaphragms and did final adjustments. It's running great now and hitting 60mph.

Here is a partial parts list that might help you:

Fuel Lines:

20 feet of Black Automotive 1/4 inch fuel line
Hose Clamps - Size 4

Jet Pump Oil Change (following SeaDoo Manual instructions)
Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Oil - 75-90 GL5
Permatex 51813 Anerobic Gasket Maker (Same as Loctite 518)
Permatex 24200 Medium Strength Threadlocker Blue (Same as Loctite 242)
Permatex 80631 #14 Thread Sealant w/ teflon (Same as Loctite PST 592)

Small Oil Lines to Carbs:
Tygon Fuel Line 1/8 inch inside diameter (clear yellow) about 3 feet purchased at the local hobby shop.

Spark Plugs - NGK BR8ES

Have you ever owned a prop boat? If you did you might need a little jet propelled docking practice... LoL
