so as the title says, i just bought my first ski. it looked awesome in pictures and looks just as good or better in person. u could eat off the motor and it looks like it has some performance goodies done to it already.
i bought it from the owner of a pwc performance shop about an hour from here. i was told he was a collector of skis and is getting out of it. he has an original 67-68 seadoo and about a half dozen or so award winning race skis.
i was told he had the ski i purchased because it was the first model year 3 seater seadoo made.

i know that when i went to look at it, i liked the price, i loved how nice the ski was, it started up & ran beautifully, and it was owned by a mechanic that kept it flawless under a cover.

it is a 90 seadoo gtx i was told. it looks like it has a newer model front on it though.

seeing as i am new to the whole seadoo scene i know NOTHING about ski's and was wondering if anybody could give me any advice as well as give me any info about the ski that you may notice from the pics. like i said, the motor doesnt look completely factory.
thank you!

thanks guys. is that front compartment cover the right one for that year model? cause it seems to be newer.
also the carbs look aftermarket, or atleast the filters do. the exhaust manifold looks aftermarket. also the top of the motor is blue? in my very limited experiences with pwc's, can anybody tell me if that stuff is stock? or any info about it?
if its not stock, is it good? bad? do i need to take extra precautions?
i am very smart when it comes to mustangs and stuff with aftermarket tricks and tips. but a pwc is like reading chinese to me. lol

Cylinder head is after market
Flame arrestors (filters) are after market
From the pic the hood looks like a 1992 GTS/GTX, but can't be 100% sure.
From the pic I can't tell if the carbs are stock or not, but if they are stock most probably they were re jetted for the after market flame arrestors.
The tuned exhaust pipe is after market, as well.

Take her for a ride and see how she does!!
Download a service/ repair manual either from this site, or google - 1990 sea doo manual and download for free.

wow! so this ski may not be as "under-powered" as i have heard? the fastest boat i have ever rode is my dad's '97 sea ray 175br v6 i/o. it will run about 45mph and it is plenty fast enough.
will this ski with the mods yall have pointed out be comparable power and speed wise with me (290lbs) on it? cause that would be fast enough for me considering this is my first ski. i havent ever even sat on top of one before.

the only thing i can see wrong with it is, its missing the bumper strip that covers the screw heads on one side. the bumpers have no scars on them, and the bottom of the hull has less than a handful of barely noticeable hairline scratches from loading and unloading.
i gave $900 with the trailer, i feel like i did pretty good. but some of the prices i have seen members on here quote had me a lil nervous at first. did i get ripped off?

also, does anybod know where i can find that bumper strip? its discontinued everywhere i look.

I think thats a pretty good deal with a trailer. Look up patriceg007 on here he has lots of parts for those.

PLEASE do not mess with it!! Thats prob one of the most original GTs I have seen. I dont think I have ever seen one with all stock decals in place...and I am on CL and ebay every day.

It def has a aftermarket head, pipe, and flame arrestors. I can also guess it has a prop, and a revlimiter. Prob. a intake grate too.

$900 with the trailer was a decent deal. There isnt a lot of interest in the older skis....I just have a soft spot for mint old machines like this. There arent many left out there.

On that trim...its black. Any trim from any black trimmed machine will work. off the top of my head the 96 GTX, and 99 GSX had black trim that would be long enough. I have some, but it will be a week or two before its warm enough here to get it off w/o cracking it.

I also have all sorts of parts off of yellow motor machines.

HEY>> make sure you read up on the maintenance that needs to be done to keep it running a long time...carbs need to be rebuilt, new fuel and oil inj lines, pump serviced, etc. Hopefully the previous owner had some info on when any of it had been done...

Looks like an awesome ride! I'm a fan of anything vintage. I think you did just fine with your 900 bucks. You really can't buy a whole lot for that anymore. Good job and good luck!

i bought it from the previous owner of jet thrust performance in lawerenceville ga. which is a jetski performance shop and dealer. he now owns and operates a boat service and repair shop. he is doing boats now and selling off his collection of personal skis such as this one. he builds racing skis.

so i would assume he knew what he was talkin about. he told me to change the gas cause it was a lil old and to add a splash of oil to it for safety. but nothing else needs to be done to it.

even with the "old" gas it would start by just barely bumping the start button.

i also got the original tool kit and the sea doo blue and green cover for it

Nice...yeah you got a steal thats for sure.

I would ask him when the carbs were rebuilt last...that is the most likely thing needing work with a machine sitting for a few years. Its worth the $3-400 of parts and labor...a big piece of mind that the motor (with all those go fast mods) that its getting proper fuel.

Also I would just do a compression test and make sure the compression is not set up for race gas.

Bill O'neil used to whip on lots of teams with newer machines that that hull...in its time it was a great hull. Wetracer was selling a set of beachhouse sponsons for that oldie...they are almost non existant.

thank you everybody for all your support.

when he told me to change the gas he specifically said to use premium only. so i drained the gas and refilled it with 93 octane and added a bottle of octane booster with a splash of oil.

i guess i could contact him and ask when the carbs were built last, but i dont wanna bug him with my stupidity lol... i made sure to ask him what i should do to it before i took it out this year. he told me they fired it up and prepped it for sale that morning and that it needed nothing but the new gas. it was on craigslist 45 minutes before i went to pick it up. lol

i guess i could take it to my local seadoo mechanic and ask them to look at it and tell me what it needs.
but the guy i got it from is a seadoo mechanic and thats what he does for a living, and he said gas only.

maybe a second opinion would be best. just incase he didnt wanna mention that needing to be done, and didnt want me to ask him to do it as part of the sale. the guy seemed like a real honest guy and the quality of boats and pwc's he had in the shop, spoke for themselves!. lol

ouch!! that hurts. lol

i already called em, they said $85 per carb off the ski. or $100 something per carb on the ski. it will be $85 per hour shop labor to work on it. but the carbs are flat rate.

it runs soo good. i am tempted to just take it to the lake and try it out like the seller told me to do. he specifically told me he makes its his promise not to lie to people cause his customers know where his bussiness is and he doesnt want his front windows smashed out all the time. lol

and I'm sure he would be happy to rebuild the carbs for you if you asked...just let him know you are doing it for piece of mind. He will let you know if he feels like they should be done.

It maybe in great shape...alot that come to me are...but its not fun dealing with a problem in the middle of riding season.

Whatever you do DONT take it to the dealer.

i will work on the carbs situation.

assuming all the things yall have pointed out are accurate. what kind of powe and speed can i expect outta this thing?
i am a big guy (290lbs) and have never ridden a ski before. i have also never rode a boat faster than 45mph.
is this gonna be a huge dissapointment for me? can i tow a tube or a skier?

once again, thanks for educating me every one of yall.

It will prob be a 40mph ski with some decent pep, but your a pretty big guy. You need some HP....99 GSXL would be perfect.

I know these guys from their reputation around the Atlanta area. I have heard nothing but good things from their customers.
I would have to say that you did really good. I live near Chattanooga now, but I lived in the Northwest Atlanta area for 30 yrs.

OK...so I am cruising around on ATL craigslist and come across two yamahammers for sale complete with pictures, and in the back ground of these pics is your new ski. Thought that might interest you!!
