Just got a jet dynamics intake grate for my 1995 seadoo xp(720 engine X4 hull)...how will this change the performance of the ski? Will it hurt the top speed or improve it? I would say it is choppy where im gonna ride...

Intake Grate

You will not see any difference in performance, I didn't. However you will see a big difference in manuverability. When you turn its like there is a long nail through the ski to the bottom of the lake. "Back in the day" its like turning on a dime and giving 9 cents change.

Revised: I was thinking, the old term as "stop on a dime", but anyway you know what I mean.

This is a real good mod., it's the only one I recommend. SeaDoo does a real good job of getting max. performance and realibility from their skis. I have allways thought if you want a faster ski buy a faster ski.

You have to consider where you ride...Is there a lot of debris in the water??? Because i replaced the stock intake and the first day i used it in the hudson river(NYC) i sucked up a bag, ballon string wraped around drive shaft and bottle cap stuck in jet nozzle!!!The stock intake offers more protection gainst debris...It had better holeshot and choppy water performance. The pump would stay loaded through chop but it did scrub a few MPH of top speed(2 or 3)....With the stock intake never had anything in pump...Go figure

It's a good grate... but I don't like how "Open" it leaves the pump. So... on my X4, I used a UMI top loader. It about the same, but with 2 runners.

It's kind of like this:

I was looking at the one from worx for my 97....

havent really looked at the stocker i have on there right now, just felt it when the ski is in the water when i pulled some weeds off....

How more open and exposed does this leave the pump compared to the stock

That one give you about the same protection.

The big difference is the "Wings" in the center. Those will help you keep the pump loaded, and the hull stuck to the water. BUT... it will scrub 1~2 mph off the top on glassy water.
