Hi Guys.

Well... after waiting since last year... and after 7 weeks, from real point of order... the new tow rig showed up !!!!!!!!

Its very much like my old truck... but the interior is nicer, with all digital displays, and a touch screen on the central control.

The diesel is a little depressing. It's so smooth and quiet... I had to turn off the radio, and open the windows just to hear it. (lol) In the cab... if you didn't know it was a diesel... you honestly wouldn't know. My old Cummins sounded like an old school bus... and the neighbors could hear me a few blocks away.

The torque from the little engine is great. When the turbo spools up, the truck lunges forward, with authority. For the guys who haven't looked... the little 3.0L engine puts down 420 Lb-ft of torque at 1900 RPM.

Big Jake... you should see a few $$$ coming your way.

Congrats, I like it! These new diesels are so quite compared to the old Cummins. I loved my 2500 with the Cummins, I'm sure my neighbors were happy when I sold it.

Is that knob the shifter? That touch screen is honkin' HUGE!

Again, congrats on the new rig. Best of luck, it's really nice Doc.

Yes... that's a shifter knob. It's going to take some time to get use to it. I keep trying to grab for a lever on the steering column.

And yes... it's a big center screen. (8.4") The "Stock" one was only 5". But I wanted a rear view cam... and I figured since I was spending the $$$ on a new truck... what's an extra $400 for the big, kick-but radio??

Lol, that's definitely gonna take time to get used to. I still to this day go for the clutch pedal or the dash shifter on my wife's van. My last stick car was probably 10 years ago. Old habits are hard to kick. Post a pic of the back up cam if you don't mind, that's just nuts.

Well done Doc she's a beauty your gonna love that screen and back up cam, nail the tongue of the trailer dead center every time. We have the 2012 Larimie no diesel, the 5.7 Hemi but love the truck at the time it was the best value for the money. The screen looks the same but the layout of the dash is quite different. Kids love the hardrive, load movies and all the music they want.

That selectashift will be interesting, everytime you grab for the shifter, its like walking up the stairs and you thought you hit the last step but there is no more, and kinda fan on it, hoping nobody's looking.

Racer: I'll take a couple pics in the morning of the rear view cam.

Kicker: My 2010 didn't have the rear cam... and after getting the islandia... I really wish I had it. All my smaller toys are easy to pick up, and pull onto the hitch. But, that doesn't happen with 5000 lbs worth of boat.

Congrats Tony,,, Hope you get many years of happiness and use out of it. Looks to be a very nice truck..

Here's the backup cam pics for you.

The camera is in the handle, and is pointing down, so it can see the hitch. The main screen will give the display. Along with that, it shows the "Tire Track"... and it will curve when you turn the wheel. It's a very nice system.

Finally... I took a ride to my dad's house this morning... and I hit 26.3 MPG !!!!! I wasn't even trying to hard. But... that's about 10mpg better than my old truck. (same truck with a 4.7L Gas V8)

HOLY CRAP that display is huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My wife's van has the older RER radio/NAV and that is nice when backing up into a trailer but that is just sick. Smart upgrade for the 4 bills.

Now you need the lockpick, you can add multiple cameras so when you're pulling into a spot it can kick on under 5mph and you can see whats in front of you, or add kiddo cams inside the cab or side cams and you can even turn on the rear cam while driving to "check up" on your trailer.

Looks great Tony.
Have the same touch screen in my Jeep, kind of miss it when I drive my truck. I think I'm only getting like 14 mpg with my Hemi 5.7 :(

The new 5.7 (realistically) get's the same mileage as my old 4.7L. About 15 mpg mixed driving, and it will push 21 to 22 mpg if you can set the cruse control on a long trip. I think I saw 19 mpg heading up to Dubois with the blue truck.

BUT... that's one of the main factors for me getting the new truck. 1) I missed my 2500 diesel, but didn't miss the price tag of that truck. 2) The MPG's they were talking about with the new EcoDiesel was just crazy.

I had to dust off the vinyl cutter, and make a new sticker for myself...... (LOL)

Did you install a lockpick on yours? I'm thinking of doing it in my '09, and was wondering how difficult they are to install.

No, I wanted to just for NAV input while driving but our van (VW Routan--red headed step child to the Chrysler Town and Country) has Voice command so we can talk to the NAV while driving to input a destination. That actually works pretty darn good by itself. I would still love to do it but I can see us in the van for about another 1.5 to 2 years and it will have over 110K miles. It's a 2010 and we already have 70K miles on the clock, we bought it new with 17 miles. I have read installs of guys doing them in under 15 minutes its that easy. On coastal techs site they have install videos, I think for the older vehicles you can get the V.5 unit

Thanks Racer. I've been debating getting one. I like the idea of adding a forward facing camera and having my passenger have the option of controlling certain features that are currently only available while in park.

Tony, that's a great looking truck. Hope it treats you well.

Looks good! Once I get the Hummer paid off Id like to add a smaller diesel to the fleet. The F350 dually is overkill for pulling the seadoo or boat.

Have 2 use one every other year. Although I don't have any thought a pair of green RXP's would look good behind the Ranchero.

Should have put this on another thread, delete or move if desired.

report back if ya do indeed get 22 mpg

I'm at 1600 miles, and I've only stopped for fuel 3 times so far. My old truck (2010, Ram 1500 Crew, 4x4 4.7L V8) was basically the same, and I will list the MPG too.

a) Towing the double ski trailer gets me 19~20 MPG (old 13 mpg)

b) Highway has been showing +27 mpg (old 18~19)

c) Short trips (around town) is showing 20 mpg (old 12~13)

d) "Mixed" driving gets me 22-23 mpg. (old 14~15)

My REAL, MPG Per tank has been around 23 mpg !!!! (this is the hand calculated number over all) AND... I sure my first 2 tanks were on winter fuel. (They cut Diesel with Kero/#1 to help with gel) I should gain 1~1.5 mpg on straight #2.

I am VERY pleased with the 23 mpg on the tank. That represents my normal driving. There has been several trips with my utility trailer, and a bunch of trips to the local stores, and taking kids to school. The way I see it is... I'm getting a solid 8~9 mpg better in any situation, than my old truck.

As a final FYI... guys have been noticing that the "Lie-O-Meter" on the dash, is very close. (within 0.5 mpg)

Here's a trip to my model RC flying filed. The trip is mostly highway. BUT... there is 5mi between my house, and the entrance, and 2~3 miles after I get off. Both of those sections are typical "Town" situations, with lights, and hilly roads. Also... it's not typical Freeway type highway. This is PA... so it's hilly, an interchange, slowing for idiots that don't know how to merge... and a couple stops for a toll booth. (The trip was 56 mi total)

I'm 100% sure... if I got onto a nice flat, normal "Freeway" style road... I would see 30 mpg.

27.4 is still great for a truck. Thats good to see.

Awesome truck! glad they finally came out with the 1/2t diesel. I have you trucks big brother

I had a 2002 2500 Cummins. It was a great truck, but I really didn't need a 3/4 ton. Also... when I got my 2010 1500.... the deals on the 2500 SUCKED, and I got almost $9k off the sticker of the 1500. (how could I pass that up?) Basically, that put a $20K difference between the 2 trucks at the time. (that's a lot of $$ just to keep a diesel)
