I was looking earlier this winter at my pistons, then i noticed this water passage thing was cracked. Does it need to be replaced? Or can i continue running it like this?

Also, what the hell is this gellatinous glop that is in there? I have seen it before and cleaned it but it came back...

This was where it mates to on the piston dome side. It doesnt look like it really does anything, but i have no idea really.

Also, just installed these new water lines as well. Is there any reason that these wont work? I am going to get some clear ones for the pisser hole and the line that goes from the water rave to the exhaust, but i wasnt buying a 20' roll when i only needed like 7'. I have had cooling problems in the past, and think these and the other one's I will get will help give me piece of mind.

Lastly, i was taking my water rave apart to make sure all was good, and it look liked the whole damn thing came apart, at least ive never seen it come apart like this. Is the steel washer thing supposed to stay in the housing? The whole screw and everything just came out. Can i super glue that washer back in there?

Lastly, once upon a time last summer at the lake, my waterbox rave spring broke. I had some spares lying around, but i dont know which one the waterbox rave uses. I think the shorter one of the two goes to the exhaust rave valves, and the longer and less "springy" one goes to the waterbox one, but i dont know for sure. Any ideas?

Sorry for this super long post, just dont want to start a million threads!

The WR springs are the heavy ones.

On the WR...Did you take the metal clamp off the top? If thats the one I sent you I must have forgot the clamp. Ill send you one if I forgot it.

the rest of it otherwise looks fine.

On the head cover I'd say forget about it. The goo I would assume is lake crap...just another good reason to flush.

Okay. Waterbox springs are the heavy ones. Check.

On the water rave, that one is actually mine and OEM original, is the whole thing just supposed to come apart like that tho? I have never seen it like that?? And yeah, I did take the metal band off.

So you think the head cover is okay to run then? Should I just break that piece off?? Or just leave it as is?

Yep... what Minnetonka said.

BUT... I would either TIG weld the cracked chunk back in... or I would break it out all the way. I wouldn't put it back together with an internal broken part. (it could clog something)

Okay well i think i will just break it off. Can you really see any use for it? Or any problems that it would cause. I think the other side it could be a problem, but i cant see nothin it will hurt on the side it is on.

Any idea how it got like that?

It froze at one point I would imagine and I dont see any reason it would cause a problem if it wasnt there.

Im not sure what you are getting at on the WR....looks normal to me. Yes it should all pull out in one piece like that. On the 95 XP 800s you have do disassemble it, but anything 96+ it looks like what you got there.

Never before has the whole assembly been apart for me. It used to be like pressed in there. What is the point of the screw if the whole assembly comes right through the top? The screw used to attach the valve to the housing, it doesn't anymore. It's just loose fitting in there now

Yeah. I know it screws in the cap, I've just never seen it come out. I'll try and get a video later of what I'm talking about

Okay nick. Hopefully this short video will explain what im talking about and how it wont stay in there. Take a look anyone if ya could.

Well, I just happen to have mine off the ski, I was going to replace the bellows but Nick talked me out of it. Anyway mine is exactly the same as yours. The only thing that holds it together is the cap and the spring clamp.

BTW I didn't see the clamp part no. 27 on your valve, this usually rusts and breaks and will wear a hole in the bellows, I just used a cable tie to replace the clamp, it won't rust.

Lou, yeah. I took that old c clip clamp off a couple years ago when it rusted. I had a zip tie on there, but i just cut it off real quick earlier the other day when i was re assembling. I dont understand how the thing can just fall out of there like that. It has never done that before. There is a hole that i think is supposed to line on the insert piece that i think has to line up with the outlet hose that goes to exhaust. How in the world does it stay lined up if it can move all around? There is just no way...

EDIT: I think you were talking about part 23, not part 27. I do have part 27 on there...

Yep you're right it is part no. 23. I guess I'm not that analytical, but mine is exactly the same, so if yours is wrong mine is also.

Hmmm. Well, maybe i dont know. I kinda thought those holes would have to line up. We'll see what tonka says. I also like the blue sealant fix. Glad to see someone did this also, because i have the exact same thing on mine! Cept mine is grey, seems to be holding up!

Hey Lou. Also if i was you i would definitely get out a razor blade and cut that excess off all of the way so it is as flush as you can get it with that zip tie end connector piece. When i first did the zip tie replacement after the c clip rusted, i left a little excess on it and the corner was sharp enough to put a small new hole in the bellow. Just something to look for...

I put a little dab of RTV to keep the zip tie from poking it...just in case.

I think that over time the lower part jams into the base...or the metal washer does. One of the two. Try pushing down real hard and see if it sticks at all.

cause all thats happening there is water pressure fills the bellow pulling up on the bolt/washer and pushing down on the bottom of the bellow (and the plastic piece)

yeah, maybe it is just because the whole thing was really cold? What would you think about super gluing the silver washer down to where it is supposed to sit? Nick, do the holes in the plastic piece need to line up with the outlet piece (that goes to the exhaust)? Or does it not matter?

Chris

doesnt matter. I would just say wait till you can ride, stick it in and give it a 5 min rip. Pop the seat and see if its still leaking.
