Is the crank really bad?

I've been told by a mechanic that worked on my boat before I bought it that I needed a new port side motor, he said that there was something wrong with the crank.

Basically I turned over the engine today just to see what happens and it turned over great. Of course the head is off and I can see the pistons. But what can be said of his diagnosis? Can there still be something wrong with the crank?

He told me that the motor has to be replaced and started quoting seadoo replacement prices and balked when I spoke of SBT and their prices. I'm just wondering if a jug, piston, piston ring replacement would work or even be in ballpark. Just looking for some insight. Thanks for your time.

Any mechanic who won't do what the customer asks needs to be.... well.... I won't continue, but, if you have a bad motor, and what an STB installed... they shop should just say OK. The reason they want to do the rebuild is because they will make more in labor, and more on the parts.

As far as... if your crank is bad... I can't tell from my computer, but if it has a lot of time on it... and the top end gave up... I would recommend a full rebuild.
