Impeller Question

Hi Guys.

I've got a 2010 GTI that has a water leak at the water pressure reducer.

I removed the jet drive to have a look at the reducer.

When I removed the drive I tried to spin the impeller. It spins by hand, but as soon as you let go it stops.

No freewheeling at all.

My question is, should the impeller freewheel (spin) for a bit after you spin it by hand??

Or is it normal for it to stop right away.

Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

No...it's not normal for it to stop right away after spinning it by hand. While you have it apart...check the grease in the cone. My bet....you have 2-3 yrs of contaminated grease in it....which means the bearings might be suffering.

Hi

I removed the cone and the grease inside is yellow in color with no visible signs of water or corrosion on any of the metal parts.

I tried holding the impeller and spinning the case around it and it spins like 3 - 4 times after your hand comes off.

I'm going to change the grease and put it back together.

I'm assuming all is well inside the bearing, I cant really see inside because of the plastic covering the balls & cage.

What do you think.

Thanks

I'd be doing the same.
