The cable device that moves the intake grate up and down acting as a weed-remover broke at the point where the threads start into the long nut that attaches to the grate.

I never use this thing. Never have, never will.

Is there an aftermarket grate I can use to replace this one, for better performance?

If not, should I fix it, weld the nut back to the cable, or just weld the screws that attach it at the front?

Again, I never use it, and it never will be used. We don't use the boat in weedy areas. So rather than fix it back to useable, I would rather just bypass it, and possibly with a better part.

I'm thinking you could do a quick weld on it till you could figure out a better plan for it. I'm not sure if there is a replacement aftermarket item available.

Anyone have any idea what material the weedless grate is made of?

I am having trouble finding the parts to fix it correctly, so looking at taking the grate off, welding it solid, and reinstalling it.

I didn't get a good look at mine when I was working on it today, the wife was rushing me to go shopping :ack: but it looked like brass???
