anybody have any idea why this would happen? it was running great 1 minute, then it just started making an awful noise. i idled her back to the dock under power. all i can see wrong is the bearing is toast. it's hard to see in the pic but it's pretty much ground into mush. there was still oil in the case and everything else appears to be fine. i have 154 hours on this motor, 1997 GSX 787. is this typical?

It's a machine. some times things just give out.

Since it's a rod bearing... One of the rollers could have been bad from the manufacture, and as soon as one gave up... the others followed. OR... water could have gotten into that jug, and caused rust. a light rust will cause long term problems.

Get a new crank, make sure the oil injection is working, and put it back together.

how do i double check my oil pump? it all appears to be working fine. there is/was visible oil in the lines.

i'm at 155/153 psi on my compression. i was considering swapping out the whole motor while i have it out. i'm not sure how much more i can get out of this motor, though it still seems pretty solid. i'd hate for the top end to go out as soon as i get the bottom fixed. if it's as easy as dropping in a new crank though, i'm may just do that.

drop new crank in. Cant run the bad one, it'll have too much play on the strtoke

no intention of running the bad one. debating on getting a whole new short block. :coolgleam:

i assume an SBT crank is as good as any.
