How to tie the SPX to the trailer winch?

This is my set up.
Always think I am missing something somewhere. LOL

The roller height isn't adjustable.

Push the ski so the roller hits the hull and its resting on the under side of the nose bumper. Then raise the bunks to that, and then just a little more so you're not resting on top in the roller. When you load, get close then hook the hook to the bow eye and use the winch to draw it up.

I see. So the roller is jammed between the nose bumper (not touching) and the hook.
I will bring tools to the ramp and adjust it there.

This is a better view

It is 1/4" away from the nose bumper.
I can see only another 1/4" more, otherwise the hook will be too tight.

I think the trailer was for higher skis.

I'd just draw it in. Or get a new strap with a loop on the end of it. Provided you have enough room, the hook will be back further due to loop.

If the winch were on top instead of below the rail it is mounted on it would be better. This would put the strap against the roller which would lock the ski in better once the bow hit the stop roller.

I don't like that big flat hook. It is too big and I have to wiggle it into the eye.

I will see if I can find one you described.

Or a smaller hook?

One question: how to replace the hook on the strap?? It looks like I need to change out the strap too.

If you need a new strap, buy one with the loop on the end. Then you won't put the hook on the ski at all.

So the hook in the picture is not used?
What is holding the ski, is it the black short piece?

Thanks.

I guess I got it: loop the black strap through the eye and put it back on the hook. Is it correct?

I like this idea better. Standard strap hooks all look too big for SPX's hook eye. Also less scratching. Lol

I agree that if it were mine I'd put the winch on top and move the bunks up so that the strap rolls over top of the roller and pulls the nose up on top when you're cranking it in on a steep ramp.

Much easier to use. No fighting trying to get the hook snapped into the ski and the hook isn't jammed up against the roller.

I tend to agree, which is what I am doing right now. But isn't the weight going to hold the nose against the roller even the strap is on top of the roller?
I guess you are saying when the road is bumpy, there should be an active force to hold it down instead of only relying on gravity.

Right, gravity sucks until it don't :)

Nothing to do w/ winches, but I had the GTI about half off the trailer one time, because of a knot on the tire.

Winch on top, strap w/ loop, strap under roller, adjust bunks as needed, good to go.
