hey all, i have a 98 xp limited. new top end new fuel line and cleaned carbs. runs well everything works okay. except a bog off idle. sometimes it will even die if i mash the gas too hard from a dead stop. i have to feather the gas to get it up there.. my first guess was the accelerator pump.. how do i check that it is working properly. or could it be something else?

thanks guys

Did you clean your fuel selector valve? How old are the plugs ?

first you need to determine if you have a bog or a hesitation. a hesitation could be caused by the accelerator pump not working, but not a bog. a bog would sound and feel like the engine is loading down, almost flooding, you'd still hear the engine firing, but the engine might slow down for a second before picking back up. a hesitation would be almost like someone hit the kill switch for a second, then the engine pops back up and runs

you can check if the accelerator pump is working most easily when the carbs are off the engine, you look down the carb and watch for fuel to squirt or listen for a puff from the nozzle as the throttle is first opened.

It's a visual check. Pull the air box... squeeze the throttle, and look for a jet of fuel from the nipple.

isn't that kinda hard to do on a 951? especially in an xp?

Use a mirror, or what i got for cheap (60$) is an inspection camera. Thing is amazing. When looking down cylinders or into tight spaces, under the engine looking for that f$#*ng bolt you dropped...Paid for itself the first time i used it.
