How many hours are on my boat?

My boat is so old that it has no hour meter.

I've heard that a SeaDoo dealer can read the hours off the "computer".

Can any boat dealer do this? I mean is it like a car computer, where most mechanics own a code reader?

No, not just any boat dealer could do this. They would have to service Seadoo's and therefore most likely have the software required to read the data.

You would need to either hook up to a BUDS system which is BRP's proprietary software or a CanDoo device, which is a third-party device that does many of the same things the BUDS system does. I don't know for certain that the CanDoo device reads the hours, but I can't imagine it wouldn't.

Just FYI, you can buy your own CanDoo device for around $400.

Oh damn, I guess I will just take the previous owner's showed hours and write mine on piece of paper. :S
I wouldn't want to pay $400 to see exactly see how many hours it has.

The dealer will probably charge 1 hour of labor for a 15 min job. Or maybe just charge you for the hook up?????

You can hook up your own new hour meter. Buy one and attach it...but don't ask me how.

When i bought mine, the previous owner had it at the local SD dealer and the hooked it up and showed me for $25. I doubt all would do that though. I have a buddy who use to be a SD tech and he has BUDS on a computer so he hooks me up. Spend the money to get it read once, then install an hour meter over winter and you can keep track yourself. You can buy them for like 30 bucks.

That was my plan
The boat is 13 years old, I am guessing it will have quite a few hours on it.
I just don't really feel like spending a half a day towing it to a SD dealer and back.
