I hooked up a new stereo in replace of the stock tape deck in a 97 challenger 1800, and the stereo works good for awhile, then when you let the boat sit for the night and try the stereo the next morning it wont work and the fuse is blown. I was just wondering if anyone has a picture on how they hooked theirs up?? I just wired it up the same way but I added the yellow and red wires together (on aftermarket deck) to boat wire harness (red) could that cause this? Thanks

I dont have the same boat as you, but I have both power wires hooked the same way. That wont do it. I would double check the wiring. Make sure its not pinched or cut somewhere. I bet the power wire has a spot exposed somewhere.

i was kind of thinking about that aswell. I checked the wire under the windshield and at the battery and all seems fine but only what i can see. Is there an easy way to take the power wire right out to inspect? i was going to try that but i think it will be a bit difficult to wire it back in. any thoughts?

RFoster--i seen your older posts about your stereo install (which is pretty amazing might i add) do you have any tricks on how to do this?

It is very easy to just run new wires. From where the radio is, find a way to drop the wires down into the ski locker. Run them in plastic loom in the ki locker. You can reach way up in there and push the loom all the way up to the side out of sight. Run that to the back of the boat and into the engine compartment.

If I do it that way would I just run the power straight from the battery to the deck with an inline fuse? Could I used regular speaker wire for this?

If you have a battery switch, which I recomend, then run it to the post on the switch that gets power when on. If not, then you can run it right to the battery, but it will be drawing power constantly and may drain your battery.

I wouldnt use speaker wire. Use a wire meant for power wire. Better yet, use power wire that is marine rated. You can use 14 or 16 gauge and be fine.

Thanks...I'm going to look go do some shopping around and try to find some marine rater wire on Friday hopefully it clears up my stereo problem. Also going to take a look in the engine compartment a bit better to see if i do have a battery switch. Thanks again. I'll let you know how i made out.

uhhhh... If you had a battery switch, you would know it. You would need to turn it on to run the boat.
