Hi. I was looking at purchasing a 2007 seadoo rxp 215.
The guy says he just installed a new hour gauge
And said it has about 100 hours. Does 5500 sound like a good price or what do you think?

At 100 hrs the SC will need rebuilt. Also, in 07 they had ceramic washers in them and they MUST be replaced with metal ones. No matter how many hours if they are ceramic they need replaced.

Take it for a ride. PERIOD !!!!

If he won't allow a test ride run away.

215 SC engine is pretty nice. The 4-tech engine is very reliable and runs well.

5500 isn't unrealistic. If the SC hasn't been rebuilt (and he can prove irbid he says it has been) then lower the price at least 500 as that will be the basic cost to rebuild the SC.

I asked him about taking it for a ride and he had no objection and said he'd let me take it out and try it out. How will I know for sure if the sc will need rebuilt? And again he said he had to replace the computer or the gauge that deals with the hours? Is this a common thing or should I be worried?

Bottom line is, if he can't PROVE it was rebut you must do so for two reasons. 07 had ceramic washers and at 100 hrs they need rebuilt.

Gauges do fail. You can have the dealer read the MPEM to see what it says, but I would just assume there is at least 100 hrs on it.

I STRONGLY suggest the check ride and taking a compression test as the hours can't be proven.

To test compression remove the plugs, ground the spark wires, thread in the tester, hold throttle wide open and crank the engine.

Post the results.

What if I didn't rebuild sc? Would it be best for me to just look at buying another ski than to deal with these problems?

It's a 4 tec all he has to do is pull the coil packs and unplug them. Then pull the plugs and check compression.

I purchased a 2004 rxp 215 today and it ran excellent and was in perfect shape. No scratches or anything and only 80 hours and one owner. He had replaced the washers and whatever else in the sc. I believe it will be a really nice ski.
