First Post. I am removing the exhaust pipe head and have already removed the three bolts, ground down a 15 mm wrench to get to the nut on the back side. I need to separate the pipe head from the pipe cone. I have already removed the clamp, but it appears to be glued together with a silicone-like seal. Is there a "surgical" way to remove this or do I just pry it off with a screwdriver?

Thanks Tony!!!! I couldn't get a screw driver in there, but I finally got it off with constant pressure. The reason I am taking this pipe off is to inspect for cracks to it or the exhaust manifold. My ski wouldn't start (easily) once it had been in the water. I took it to my local shop, they hooked the water up and ran water through it for about 5 min (with out the motor running), pulled the spark plugs and there was an extreme amount of water in the cylinder. The mechanic told me the most likely culprit was the head pipe, next the y manifold, and lastly the head/head gasket. Does that sound logical? After that diagnosis he quoted me a lot of money to pinpoint the problem, and I couldn't afford it, so I am trying to diagnose myself. I am a total newbie at the whole PWC thing, but not totally new to motors. I thought I would tear down in the order he said he would. I can see that the head bolts have been worked on before, so I am now leaning towards a head gasket, or bad head. He said that there was good compression (at 120 psi I think is what he said, but that seems low to me) on each side. Any thoughts anyone???

wow. the shop ran water pressure into the ski with the engine off?! lol, yes of course that will fill the engine with water!

well, that IS one way to test for leaks :(

Wow, sounds like he intentionally ran water into the engine to get your business. Don't go back there. You never run water without starting the engine first. I am sure others will chime in with some suggestions. I have never worked on that motor.....yet.

my question is.. why? why even pop the hood? that guy looks amazingly dry though for his location.

lol, maybe he's been standing there awhile...
maybe he's wearing those pajama jeans
don';t you just love the internet ?

i'm still in shock that a dealer would do that to an engine !
