2003 Glastron GX-185, 190 hp VolvoPenta, pretty much immaculate shape. 175 hours, and maintained. $15,000.

Willing to meet us tomorrow and take it out for a spin. Not today, he and family are out on the lake with it.

Has added wakeboard tower, waketower speakers and amp, etc. etc.

I got a guy willing to give me $4500 for my challenger immediately, if I decide to do this.

Guy sent me a bunch of pictures, it looks spotless.

So what you guys think? Rockford Fosgate amp, speakers on the tower, etc.

Going to go look at it today.

nice boat... but I know locally, there are a bunch of 3 and 4 year old left-overs. Ive seen a boat similar to that listed for $19k new. (with warranty) And since it's 3 years old, but new... I'm sure the price could com down a bit.

With the economy down... most people owe more on a 3 to 5 year old boat than they are worth.

If it was me... I would go wonder into a few new boat dealers, and see what they have.

What brand are you seeing new for $19k?

This one runs $32k new locally. Decked out with the 190 hp engine, wakeboard tower, sound system, etc.

So I am getting it for less than half price at $15k. and only 175 hours, so relatively low use for a 7 yr old boat (25 hrs/yr). Maybe it spent most of the year in the shop? keeping the hours down? :reddevil:

As far as using the economy to my advantage on this boat, I doubt it will work. He is a director of engineering at a big firm in Houston. He lives in the Woodlands, the expensive suburb on the lake north of Houston. The economy is not bothering him at all.

Good lookin boat. Price seems OK compared to others I just found. I know your part of the country might be different. But here in the midwest, I found a 2003 195 for 13,900, a 2006 185 for $16,000, and an 03 225 for 18,000, a 2007 185 for 15,900. All of the were Glastron and on Craigslist. None of them had towers or stereo systems, so thats would cost like 2,000 to add. So it is a decent prize. Not a smokin hot deal that you cant pass up, but a decent deal if you really like it.

We are out on the lake a littld early waiting for him to show up. If it looks as good in person as it does in pictures we will most likely get it.

It is the right size and had all the features that we want.

Let you guys know what happens. And pics when we get it home!!!

Price....?

Man, the thing looks great!... But, I'd have to be inclined to agree with Dr. Honda. Boats are being found really cheap these days. Dealers who couldn't move inventory during the econonmic downturn are willing to bargain. For a couple thousand more, you could practically buy a newer model, if not new for the price he's asking.

Yeah, I agree with you, it does have low hours but a lot of times, it's not how many hours are on the motor, it's how old it is. In this period of time, you could buy it and with the hours being low, start using it and find the seat upholstery beginning to split the seams or tearing. The carpet isn't wet now, what will happen when it's been wet down repeatedly for a couple outings and dried? The seals at the joints, where the shaft and cables pass from the transom into the foot, how dry rotted are they?

I'm only playing the devils advocate. Keeping things over a long period of time and not really racking up any hours on the motor doesn't actually equal a good deal, if the integrity of the hull and drivetrain aren't there.

I'd check around a bit more and make sure you've found the best deal for your 15K....:hat:

Too late. Pretty much got this one nailed down.

Looked around and everything was about the same price, but not as good a shape, no sound system, no waketower. By the time we add that in, another 5-6k is added.

Also, I called that guy who wanted the Challenger last weekend and he said he is still very interested, so I may get that one unloaded quickly.

By the way, testdrive was about an hour long, boat ran flawlessly, but a touch slow out of the hole. 4 full size adults, 3 of them over 200 lbs. Then the owner says "Oh, damn. I forgot, Look here." and lifts up the floor hatch. 2-50lb bags of sand for ballast. Then 2 more on each side of the engine. (he and his buddies have been using it primarily for wake boarding).

So 4 adults, 300 lbs ballast, and it was just "a touch slow out of the hole" but still as good or better than my challenger with just 2 adults in it.

glastron

My friend just bought the same boat for 7,900 excellent shape. I just serviced it, your price seems high just my 2 cents. Thanks

I am not finding anything around here for less than 12k. Even older boats. These boats are running 12-13 around here, and I am willing to go 15 just because of the upgrades (which i would do myself if they weren't already on there).

Can you all show me links of what you are looking at?

I am just not seeing them.

I would LOVE to pay $8k for this...

FWIW, blue book on this for Average retail is $13,500. And this boat is way better than "average" for a 7 year old boat.

+1, great boat, fair deal especially with the tower and whatnot. I grew up boating and skiing on Glastron's back in the 70's Live and Let Die phase, including their jet boats (yea, I'm old).

If I could've found a similar deal on the 185, 195 or up at mid teens price and low hours, it would've been that vs. the S200. They are popular for good reason and tend to move quickly regardless of season.

Just saw a flyer at the storage unit for a 2001 20' version of this boat, no waketower, no sound system. Not sure of hours. $19,999 for it.

My bank offered to finance my boat for up to $17,500. So apparently, around here, the 15k isn't too far out of wack.

By the way, sold Challenger today.

Now just waiting for title paperwork to get to the bank by mail, and should be able to pick new one up next week. :hurray:

Congrats Scoop. But, don't think we're letting you out of here so easy, eh?

First, you still have those stainless pylons to do for us, right?

Second, that last joke of yours with the flares thing was aweful, not even a groaner.

Third, sell the Maverick and buy a proper SD.

Can't sell the maverick. It was wife's great grandmother's car, and the family would be way upset with me if I got rid of it.

Besides, it is a blast to drive!!!

I will still pop in here. I like this forum, and you guys are cool to hang with.

Also, I have met many great people and even hooked up with other boaters on my lake, so it is still a social place for me to hang out at.

I am pretty sure the guy I sold the boat to has recently joined, or will be. I know he has been doing research on the boat and the normal array off issues they have.

It WAS a decent deal!

Well, we have had the boat for a week, did a little work on it to tune it up, and overall, it has been a VERY nice experience.

1600 watts of stereo and subwoofers, waketower speakers. Never thought I would want them, but NICE :reddevil:

Did a tuneup. Had stock dist cap, rotor, plugs, and plug wires, and they were all shot. All parts were purchased at AutoZone :hurray: Lube and filters have been done yearly, and just before we bought it.

Only problems I have encountered...I have a 35 dB hearing loss, and cannot hear the engine at idle. So I hold the key on START too long. Learning to just tap it and let off. Engine is running, I just cannot hear it. I can only hear the exhaust bubbling up after a couple seconds.

Won't fit in my garage so have to pay $100 a month for a storage unit a half mile up the road.

No bimini top. We will need to get one ASAP. Otherwise we will be burned to a crisp every sunday afternoon.

Other than that, runs great, planes in less than 3 seconds even with 2 couples on board, 2 beer coolers under the seats , what else can I say.

Pics from Sat and Sun of Labor day weekend of people hating being in the boat. :reddevil:

That is nice lookin. Once you get use to a nice audio system, you wont ever have a boat without one.

Cool thing is it is hooked up to a switch at MY fingertips, so when the wife turns it up too loud, and we enter a docking area, or I see the sea-cops...FLIP and it dies. Or if my other passengers cannot hear me...FLIP! quiet. and listen to the pilot :reddevil:

Or worse, if she slips in a hip-hop CD. FLIP! Silence. Until reggae or rock is put in

Thats funny....I am a big reggae fan...Mostly Bob and stuff we picked up in jamaica and some compilation CD's I have found, anything particular you like?

I like the classics, but also into rock, so Sublime if you can get past some of the louder more obnoxious stuff. Really listening to Pepper and Slightly Stoopid right now. 4 albums of SS and 2 of Pepper. Their style has changed over time so the earlier stuff is more surfer punk.

If you were going to try one or the other, start with SS Chronicitis or Closer to the Sun. Too Stoned for Breakfast is really good, but you have to let it grow on you.

Pepper has No Shame and Kona Town as good ones.

If you get to liking them, then you can experiment with their older ones.

If you have Pandora radio, put in Slightly Stoopid and you will hear some other stuff, including Marley, Matisyahu, etc. I tend to like it all.

Going to swap my stereo out this week to accept mp3 plug in so I can do Pandora on the water or play all my mp3 collections off my cell phone.

Cool, i will check it out, THANKS!! My phone has pandora, so I might try it out on the boat. I like sublime and agree you gotta get past the obnoxious stuff.

Nice Scoop, she looks great. Man, I'd love a tower but that's one upgrade that aint happenin.

RF, try The Green for some killer new Reggae with a touch of old skool.
