Help!! Gti le (won't speed up)

It's our first jet ski we have no idea wth is going on, It worked fine, did 60-70 mph & now It won't accelerate past 10 mph. It's 2004 GTI LE no visible weeds stuck. Stays on,, but what can be the cause?? Please help there is no sea-doo mechanic on this Lake & cleaned fuel filter???????

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Wow if you were getting 60-70 mph from a GTI you were really doing well, mine just does a little over 50. Anyway we need a more information.

How is the ski acting? Is the motor revving up and no speed? Kinda like if you were in a car and the clutch was slipping. Or is the ski just running slow, no rpm's? Any other symptoms?

It is reving up but when I give it full throttle it just slows & won't go past 10. Days earlier it flipped over & filled w water but was working fine
after that. Even w 2 ppl on it used it for about 2 weeks, then all of a sudden when we took it last time It was catching speed (like past 20), died & when we restarded it wouldn't go so fast anymore. we really want to get it back on the water but don't know what the problem is.

O.K., I think you're telling me that you have normal RPM's but the ski is not moving. That's a condition called cavitation, and can be caused by a couple of things. The wear ring and/or the carbon seal, I would replace both. Check the clearance, with a feeler gauge between the impeller and the wear ring, should be not more than .040", also visually check the condition of the wear ring.

i have the same problem with my 97 gtx. its revs up as normal but wont plain out for ages then im lucky to get 30 mph after 5 mins or so.
i have attached a pic, if i uploaded it correct. not sure what to do so any help or advice would be great.

how easy of a fix is the carbon ring.
my ski was running great today for a few hours then it just did the cavitation with out any warning.
it didnt just start to slow down bit by bit, it was instant.
the wear ring looks good but i would like to change it anyway to be safe so any help on how to do this on a 97 gtx would be great.
