OK so my problem is the bogging down and surging. I have 2 99 GTX and they are both doing the same thing. My husband has tried and tried while I have read and read. But just about the time that we think that we have them fixed and get them back to the lake 1 of them messes up so we load them and back to the house fix it get back to the lake and there goes the other one. We were both so fed up last night that we decided to call a shop and just get them fixed ha ha the joke was on us the 1st appt that we could get was July 30th. We just bought these at the end of the yr last yr and we really want to go play on them some more.

So to make a long story short we took them out about 5 times last Aug. as far as we knew they ran great (newbie)! Then the last time that we were out with them our friends had the same gas cans as us and they got mixed up and we got ETHONAL fuel in them. Later that day 1 of them started surging. So we got them home hubby pulled out the fuel filter up front it was full of goop and gunk so he cleaned that out and drained the remaining 1/2 tank of fuel from both so we thought that we should be good to go come this summer. Charged and put the batteries back in along with new plugs and take them to the lake for our first outing of the summer (30 miles to the closest lake) they didn't start so came home charged and put new batteries in they start right up so off we go back to the lake. Unload hop on mine ran a little rough but I got it going the one my daughter was on kept dying when she gave it gas so we came back home bought fuel booster more new plugs and a shop guide (didnt know about this) went back to the lake now the other one ran but mine wouldn't go. RPMs in water has been as low as 800 (when bad) and as high as 1400 idling (when running good).

So from reading this I see that we need to change the grey fuel line, clean the carbs (fingers crossed we don't have to rebuild them) and do something to something called the RAVE or something. My question is after looking on this site for SEVERAL hours straight I am going crossed eyed. Is there a step by step instrucion for each one of these tasks that needs to be preformed. Or Is the info in the book if so maybe where? My hubby can work on autos and semis but he has NEVER seen anything like this watercraft. ? I'm gonna have to sweet talk him so I can ride before Aug. so I want to have my eggs in a row before I approach him with all this.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU in advance for helping me out!!!

That article is pretty good. I've done this twice now. Do not ever run any kind of fuel or carb cleaner through these jet ski's. They don't like it. It sounds to me as if your internal filters in the carbs are clogged up. I'm sure the grey fuel lines aren't helping any.
The RAVE valves are easy. Just don't lose any of the springs. Remove the 2 allen bolts holding them in. Go to a table of bench and take them apart. There is 1 spring on top and one under the diaphragm. There are 2 o'rings also. It isn't very hard. I'm new to these and I just got done rebuilding mine cause whoever did it before my didn't put some parts back in. Once you have them apart, you will need to clean the actual valve. It is the piece with the stem on it. Get a wire wheel and a drill and clean all of the carbon off of them if any. Make sure you clean the oil off first. Then put back together and reinstall. Make sure the diaphragms are good. T
The carbs are held on by 2 bolts each. Remove them and pull the carbs out. Then remove the brackets holding the throttle, oil, and choke cables. Don't remove the cable from the brackets. Bad news if you do that but not that hard to fix. Pull the carbs out and take to a bench and work on them there. If you go to SBT and look for it under technical, you can see a video of how to disassemble them. Good luck and if you have any questions just ask.

I forgot. Get an impact screwdriver for the carbs. Trust me on this one. It is necessary to remove all the little screws in and on the carbs. If not then you will be drilling out those screws and looking for new ones. I had to. It took me awhile to do it.

Thank you both for your replies my husband is out side getting started on it right now!!! What size of a impact screwdriver did you use and where did you get it? Also is there anything else that I should tell him to be sure to do or not to do?
THANK YOU AGAIN!! I might get to ride this weekend! By the way about how long should this take?

man i wish my girlfriend didn't care that I was working on the seadoo all the time. I use my drill that has a clutch (guess thats what its called), works pretty good on 27

Thanks bond at this very moment I am rather agravated :boxing_smiley:cause he has the first one 3/4 the way done and now he is in the bedroom napping. It took a little longer to clean the first set of carbs than we thought but man was it nasty. The next one should go way faster since they are the same..

Just a quick update!
We are about 95% finished with the first one. My husband works alot so he is just able to work on them when he can. Plus it has been very hot in Oklahoma and he doesn't do well with the fiberglass in his skin (he is all broke out). Hopefully the second one he won;t have to be sooo cautious with and will go much faster. I got out there and worked with him a bit and since I have read so many threads I felt like I kinda knew what I was doing. With any luck we will be in the water before Aug 1st!!! :) (If he would get the carb out of the second one I think I might could even change the grey lines myself and maybe a few other things.)

Sounds good. You just need to go to a Harbor Freight or some place like that to get a impact screwdriver. Make sure yall take the tanks out and clean them out also.

Arrrrrrrggggg! Ok I just got home from work hoping that we would be ready to start on the second doo BUT no while cleaning the rave valves and putting them back together my husband broke the spring that goes aroung the piston. I think that is right he told me then went outside. It is the one that looks like it could be a bracelet. So I have been in here trying to find one to buy and I am not positive on what or where to buy it. Could somebody please help me out here:ack:

The part in question is a "Hose Spring" P/N 290239048
If your Sea Doo dealer does not have...Top right corner of this site will get you where you want to go.

I got all my RAVE valve parts at my local Sea Doo dealer. Must be careful with that spring. I would get 2 if I was you. Just in case. Nothing else will do there either. I know, I've tried everything I can think of. Zip tie lasted the longest. It eventually failed too. So I just went and got all the o'rings, springs, diaphragms, and hose springs. How is the carbs going?

Sorry that it has taken me so long to post I have been in Tulsa with my grandmother she is in the hospital plus while I was ther I was looking for the hose spring!

BUT I have great news we went out this evening and finished putting seadoo #1 together and it works it really really works :hurray: we are going to run stick it in the water in the morning to make sure it goes.

We have the carb off seadoo #2 (plus the hose ring that we stole for #1) so hopefully Sunday (my husbands forsure day off) we can be ready to really go to the lake and drink a 30 pack well thats for me he'll be driving..

As far as the hose spring neither of the seadoo dealers in Tulsa had one so they ordered it for me should be here sometime next week but I think we will try the zip tie between now and then.

:cheers:I just have to say that you guys are the best we could have never done this without you and we couldn't have paid to have all this done right now hubby was off work with a broke ankle about 3 months ago and we are still playing catch up (wish we would have known about all these problems then he could have done all this in his spare time...lol.

I had a broke ankle once. Ouch! Good to hear that #1 is running well. Don't let it fool you though. You may get it on the water and it may be a different story. As long as yall didn't change anything on the carbs you should be ok. I wouldn't use the zip tie to hold it. Not much room in there and it can hang up. Cause running problems. Grenade the motor. Good luck.

OUR SEADOOS WORK THEY REALLY REALLY WORK!!! AND THEY ARE FAST TOO! HOLY COW WE DID IT (WITH YOUR HELP!)! Words cannot explain how grateful that I am to all who helped me/us out!!! :willy_nilly::cheers:

Thats the good news now for the bad while working on these FINE machines we noticed that everything was exactly the same except the Pressure regulator Valve was missing on one of them. It looks as if they have taken it somewhere and decided to do something cheaper cause there are hoses ran to the place where it is supposed to be but thats all so when we took them out last night (by the way did I tell you how great they run) we could really tell the difference in their speeds the one that has the valve runs about 5-10mph faster than the one that dosen't! When we bought them the guy told us that one of them ran faster than the other but he didn't know why!!!

My question is first of all do we need to get this fixed and will it have anything to do with the speed?

Oh and how fast are they supposed to go? The speedometer said I was going 55 but it was also bouncing around alot and the other speedometer dosen't work (something we will work on later). All I know is that my eyelids were peeling back.

Did you take picture of your eyelids peeling back? I want to see that. That sounds about right on the speed. Do you have GPS? I use mine to tell me how fast I'm going. My speedo is off. So I use it instead. Just don't get it wet or drop it into the water. I'm not sure about the pressure regulator. I hope someone chimes in on that. Who knows?
