Grey tempo lines replaced question on fuel filter

Ive recently replaced tempo lines, cleaned carbs etc. On all the post ive seen its saying replace or clean filter. Ive replaced all filters except the screen on the baffle inside the fuel tank. Does everyone replace this also if so whats the easiest way it doesnt seem like it will pull straight out its on a 98 gsxl thanks

I am on a '97 GTX but see if yours is similar. I had four screws to pull my glovebox out and it came straight up through there. There is no screen or anything on my baffle. Did you get the one up under the front dash between the fuel selector valve and the carbs? That should be the one most people refer too. Most also recommend another inline filter. One of the small semi-clear fram plastic ones will do. I still have to add one to mine this week.

Ya they are different my glove box is on my hood thing. Ya i got the screw in filer i just seen this when i was looking at parts its just showing its at the bottom of the baffel.

The screen on the fuel baffle is not important, in fact they usually fall off anyway. The carb. filters are the most important because they are so small. If you have everything clean I would suggest installing an inline filter in the main carb. line. I use a Fram G2 filter.

BTW, the 98GSX being a smaller ski does not have a glove box, I have a 96GSX and had to replace the fuel float, and you can get the baffle out but you will need to remove all the fuel lines, personally I wouldn't bother unless you have to, it was a b*tch.

Thanks lou thats what ill do and not even mess with the one on the baffel. Ya i wished i had a glove box where some do and not have to lift front to get into mine.

I am slowly learning the little cosmetic differences. Just looked at my new baffle that I have to install still, yep there is a screen on the bottom. My old one had a vertical crack, and the whole bottom was missing out of it... Along with my fuel sensor.

I have been reading alot of the threads and might as well join in. I have a 97 GTX, recently changed all the fuel lines and cleaned the fuel selector, took tank out and cleaned out the crap at bottom etc. Now all back together and engine won't start. Can I get the fuel baffle out without taking out tank to check that I have the hoses on right? And do I have to prime the entire fuel system some how. I notice the front fuel filter does not fill up completely now? Any help would be great, thanks

Did you replace one line at a time so you dont mix them up..is the pulse line hooked to the carb? did you clean the selector

My problem is similar, replaced all lines, rebuilt carbs, cleaned tank and selector. Added inline filter and ski starts and idles fine and even takes off to full throttle for a few seconds but then winds down like its not getting fuel. i rode with seat off and the fuel filter inline never seems to fill completely... i am really frustrated with this and its kicking my a**...

I can feel your pain.

I had the same problem. On fuel selector set ro green/normal at full throtle yhe engine wanted to die. On selector set to reserve it was running great. Replaced the sellector with brand new and no more problems

Yup, cleaned selector, blew air through, selector worked fine. Did pull one line off at time and marked them, but then got tired at end and may have mixed them up when re-attaching, does anyone have the picture of how they go on if you are looking at the baffle from top and use electrical connection as referance? Pulse line is on and tight. Thanks for help

the baffle has writing on it to tell you which line goes where....if you look at the nipples on the baffle they will say ...RET...RES...and On I believe

Brock is right. I did the same thing and got worried. I took a mirror to it and its written on the baffle itself. Its the same color as the baffle so try to angle the flashlight to catch a shadow.

thats exactly what is up with my other one, reserve runs fine, on runs like crap... but then my 2nd ski it runs like crap in both positions... i ordered 2 new valves... and hope like heck it will work!

If you didn't clean that valve and tried to run it, you possibly got more sludge in the carb filters. Use that fram G2 inline filter Lou shot a nice pic of above. See if this diagram in this thread clears things up.
