fairly new here, but been reading and knuckle-busting for a while.....

got a 94 sp, white 587 with a bad shaft seal..... prev owner had already removed the steering and nozzle, the four bolts, and the four nuts... i thought it was no big deal.....

however....

the pump will not budge.... i have tied ski to trailer, chained trailer to a tree, and put a chain thru 2 bolts, then hooked a winch to chain.... 3000 lbs and still nothing!!!

please help!!

thanks!!

if its anything like my 94 xp, you have to disconnect 3 hoses inside the hull that are clamped to the plastic fittings attached to the pump.

yep, did that too.... 2 bailers and a cooling inlet hose.... the problem is way too much silicone or sealant on the pump to wall.... found some 8mm althread today, so will try 2x4 after rain leaves....

sounds like someone used epoxy or some other 'wrong' crap. I just went through this and it took forever...could be the shaft is fused to the impeller too, heat might help that and lots of pb blaster or other stuff
good luck

now, is the shaft supposed to slip over the impellor shaft, splines or something? i see how to remove the impellor with the vise, but what about the drive shaft? is it possible to remove the shoe without removing the pump?/ that would give me room to pry.....

Pump to Hull

When I changed my wear ring there was a bead of silicone seal between the pump and the hull. Try beaking it loose using a hack saw blade and siding it between the hull and pump. I did this and it came free pretty easily, and it didn't damage the hull.

Also if you look in the Clymer Manual there is a home made pump puller, if you can't find the manual I'll scan the page and send it to you, let me know.

i have an idea for the 2x4 puller..... will brace off of the back wall with 2 2x4s, then one across top with 2 8mm 6" long althread coming thru..... should be able to tighten against 2x4 and pull pump out, just don't want to send 2x4 legs thru hull, or pull fiberglass with the pump..... will try thurs after rain leaves.....

hacksaw blade is a good idea, but not much room..... i have inserted a feeler gauge so far, but not able to cut silicone, too thick.... some great shade tree decided to silicone all the way around, not just by the three fittings.....

you need to silicone all the way around, or your pump will draw air = cavitation

good point.... hadn't thought of that..... any tips on the "un-hillbillying"?

the manual show the puller bracing off of the black bumper and the rear wall.... any spots i should not push on?? any chance of fiberglass damage?? thanks....

cool.... what is a good epoxy for the new hull insert for the seal carrier and the hose tube?? jb weld, or regular fiberglass resin? thanks....

Gasket

I don't know about other skis but on mine there is a rubber gasket between the pump and the hull, I got one from my local dealer. As far as the seal carrier, I don't know, marine silocone should be O.K. for the hose connections.

okay..... after some fustration, i got the pump off...... YES!!!! i tried the 2x4 trick first, but my wood was old and wet..... started splitting on the shoe, and my washers were digging in..... plan b..... same idea, but with an old bolt in type reciever hitch i had laying around.... i believe its 1/4" and about 6" wide...... added a hole to line up with pump, and stacked large sockets against the shoe..... the pump was stubborn, but didn't find much silicone.... the studs and aluminum pump ears had corroded, causing it to sieze.... by the time it broke loose, i had ruined my metal plate..... i would recommend using channel iron, or a square tube.....

if your pump will not move, just keep trying....

thanks for all the advise!!!!
