Gauges dont work on my 96 SPX

My 96 SPX had a VTS gauge and a multi function gauge. Im pretty sure the VTS gauge is just shot becasue the needle and face are oxidized something bad. The multi function gauge on the other hand looks fine. Is there a test i can perform to see if it does work? Is there a fuse somewhere that controls these? VTS doesnt bother me so much but it would be nice to have a functioning gas and oil gauge.

No gauge responce

I would test the baffle and gauge since they're easy to troubleshoot without taking anything apart. You would need to locate the baffle that's clamped to the tank and then unplug the wire harness coming out of it. It should be a two wire plug with pink wires. To test the gauge, use a paperclip and short (connect) the two wires going towards the gauge. Now with the lanyard removed push the start button and see what happens. If the gauge goes to full, you have a baffle problem. If nothing happens, your gauge is most likely at fault. To test the baffle, using an ohmeter check for resistance on the two wires going into the baffle. You should get a reading from 0 to 89 ohms. If you get an open circuit, you have a bad baffle. If it's below full but you get a 0 ohm reading, the magnets most likely have detached from the float. If the ski has fuel in it and it reads around 90 ohms (corresponds to empty), the float may have absorbed fuel and is setting in the bottom of the baffle,
unless the bafel bottom cover came unsnaped, then both are laying in the gas tank bottom. Bills86e

Possible to repair DYI : http://www.sea-doo.net/techarticles/vts/index.html

Does the multi gauge come on at all? If not... start buy checking the fuses. If it does come on, check each Function one at a time, or find someone who will just let them plug it into their boat/ski.

The fuel sender is known to go bad, and it probably needs a float, or the fuse changed. (it's soldered to the sender)

Nothin works on the multi gauge. Which is leading me to thing the gauge itself is shot. I checked all 3 fuses in the electical box and all are good. Your saying there is a fuse soldered to the sender?

Yes, some have a small fuse built into the sender, but the gauge it self would still turn on if it's getting power. Before you toss the gauge out... make sure it's getting power to the black and red wires. (+red, -black) If you have power... it's time for new gauges.

So the multi gauge is good. All functions work. I jumped power to it and everything read like usual. Heres the triky part. The wires I jumped to get power were purple and brown if I remember right. They are plugged into a connector that is part of the VTS gauge. It seems to me that the multi gauge gets its power through the VTS gauge. Does that sound right? So if my VTS gauge is show, which im sure it is, then the multi gauge wouldnt get power right? The VTS gauge has major corrosion

Yes... I couldn't remember what the "Master Gauge" was. One gauge gets the power, and then it feeds into the next.

The VTS gauge is known to give up the ghost, and if it dies... it won't feed to the next. Get a new VTS and you will be fine.

Ok, new known good VTS gauge is in. However the gauges are still a no go. Im thinking my problem is further back. Where do the gauges get their power from inside the hull? All three fuses in the electrical box are good, are there any anywhere else? I doubt it has anything to do with it but Im prety sure the VTS motor is not working, prolly shot. Could that somehow effect this?

Still having a hell of a time with this VTS issue. I jumped the motor out of the boat and it works. With the timer in however Im getting no power anywhere in the VTS circuit. Could this be a bad VTS modual at the rear? None of my gauges work, I assume this is caused by the VTS not functioning because the VTS gauge powers the other gauges. If I buy this, http://www.thetrimfix.com/ do you guys think it would fixm y problem? Checked all fuses, all are good. Greased all connections, checked all wires. Everything is good.
