Fuel Baffle Toast?

Trying to get a fuel level reading on a '95 XP. Unsurprisingly, my ohm meter read 1 when initially testing the plug.

I pulled the baffle and cut into it to check the F1 fuse. It appeared to be intact, but I still soldered it just in case. My Ohm reading is still no different than before the solder and sliding the float up/down the baffle does nothing.

Does that mean the baffle is beyond repair? It looks terrible. The bottom third of it has tons of micro-cracks and evidently sat in the same fuel for years and years.

If you still can't get a reading with the F1 fuse soldered over then yes, sounds like it is toast.

Is there voltage when connected to.aki or does the gauge work by ohms resistance due ro magnet aqich been activted

Within fuel tank guage repair , soldering of boards whats the risks when replacing f1.fuse, risks within petrol,

Your picture shows the solder bridge you created shorting 3 areas where the original F1 fuse only would connect 2 areas as shown in a later picture from martinh on this post. Before you scrap the fuel baffle, try removing the solder and try only connecting the 2 areas as shown in martinh photo.
