Maybe I'm a little slow or not very familiar with yama conversions.....but what engine conversion was done to it to make it book in the 80s?

First keep in mind that the gpr hull itself is a speed demon, easily capable of low 70's with some reasonable mod's to the 1300 engine, but take that out and replace it with a SC 4 tech and you get the same power plant put in the newer hulls, but with a lighter/faster hull around it, bump up to Stage 2 and your pretty much scooting along 80+. Go Stage 3 and its time to buy some more life insurance.

Generally speaking the same mods that would push a RXP to the low/mid 70's will push a gprxp into the low 80's because of the hull, duly noted i'm not even close to understanding the fine points on the mods, that's for others to worry about, not me.

Personally I just want a stage 2 and have absolutely no desire to push harder than that, its scary enough.

Damn then that does sound like a smoking deal at 5500. Find the guy who bought it and offer him 5600 [emoji14]

And with the right hull setup some guys have nipped at 80 mph with a bone stock 215 hp SC 4TEC. The GPR is the pinnacle of hull efficiency and speed.

yip, and to be honest, its hard for me to get into the 4 tech mods, especially the conversion w/o sounding like an idiot because I've never gotten to that yet except for cursory reading and the jealousy of being easily passed while i'm full WOT going 72 all tucked.. I just want reliable 4 stroke power, extremely respectable speed in a good looking hull that i'm comfortable with, having spent 100+ hours on the gpr already.

spent 4 hours on tempest last night browsing several different models ranging from another R12X, RXT's, X models, etc and i'm going to drive myself batty, my wife had the audacity last night to suggest that maybe I keep the cash and give up the sport, I looked at her like she just told me she used to be a dude....

Had a failure in Marathon with one on the VX's and went in and upgraded to VXR and FX SHO
Got a good deal and fair amount for the old ones and bit the bullet.

Those conversions will require learning curve but budget wise makes sense.

No worry 5 year warranty makes it easier to bear though.

Wow, just realized this thread ahs over 1/2 million views. Good thread idea nammer

i talked to the dude in south tampa with the 99 gsx and the blue one, not sure we can settle on a final price that works for both of us at this point...

edit: the 99 gsx & crate motor ($1200) are selling today for $950, not to me, not enough meat on the bone at $1200, but 950 is a pretty good deal.
