if we ask him bout the title, it might answer that one

This is not all that uncommon in the ATV and Snowmobile world. I have heard of guys buying leftover quads at a good discount, taking them home and parting them(never riding them)--especially with a model that has been a produced several years and haven't changed. Buy a quad for $5K and sell the engine for $3K, bare frame for $800, 4 rims and tires for $4-500, Axle for $200, Swing arm for $250, Shocks etc.... and quickly you're in the profit margin--especially if your niche is quads. Same thing with snowmobiles. Buy a leftover heavily discounted, ride it for a season and part it for what you paid, so basically you rode a season on a new sled and it only cost you gas and oil, rinse and repeat! Both of these scenarios will have proper ownership. Doing this takes a huge set of brass ones, it's a big gamble.

The place I bought my Speedster at was a Seadoo dealer/refrigeration/HVAC repair, it was so small you would have driven right past it. It was a great place to cut a deal but the last time I was there they had two 3 year old skis---BRAND NEW! That is where you could buy and part for a smokin' profit. I bought at the end of the season and all the guy said was, come up I'll make you a deal you can't refuse I need it off the books.

Here's another place that has had new skis that were 2-3 years old. They used to have 2(iirc) 3D's that were heavily discounted, like close to what they were going for used. They have a few 2012's still by the looks of it. The 2 year old leftovers are still out there, I think I read somewhere that someone bought a 96 HX brand new in 2000? so a 4 year old leftover.

Here's the place I bought my Speedster, I swear this was there when I was up a few years ago, and it was probably 2010 or 2011. You know they didn't get $10,3 for it. They're no longer a Doo dealer but they were the nicest guys to deal with. It was like doing business with you neighbor you knew they weren't gonna screw you.

Maybe the guy owes $4k on it and by parting it he can get out of it faster than if he tried to sell if at actual market value since the FL market is probably flooded.

I think I have a shifter laying around if somebody needs one.

The 97.5 GSXL was released early as a production model to get the 951 legal for racing. There were parts of it that caused the engines to fail early that need to be changed. It had piston to cylinder clearances that were too tight. It also had a device on the carbs that leaned the mixture out. This was a bad combination for reliability but it allowed BRP to slip the 947/951 engine into acceptable emissions territory. This made all the following 951's legal to import where they may have not been if they were re-tested after being set up the more reliable way.

The white engine cases, cylinders, and head are different from silver 951's and do not interchange. The white pipe is a valuable part that adds performance to regular 951's. I think there is something special about the pump also but not sure about that one yet.

oh ya... the pipe.... I forgot about that.

so actually the white engine core would have limited value then... hmmm, upside with the pipe, downside with the core.

You can still find new honda skis in crates and they haven't made em since 09.
