Hey Y'all! (from Texas)

I'm new to the PWC world and thrilled to find a place to learn and read so much about this new toy and all it has to offer! (Good, bad or indifferent, don't worry...I am already a boat owner!) I purchased my ski from a coworker who has always taken good care of his things, but I am already learning there is a lot to track down for its history and maintenance. The ski has 128 hours and runs great!

I had it out for the second time just this past weekend and ran a full tank of gas through it! It was awesome, and I want to keep it that way! I have noticed there are a few issues and concerns with the supercharger and other maintenance issues so please feel free to throw out any recommendations or ideas so I can keep this beauty running as good as it can!

Thanks again!

Welcome aboard.

I need to double check but I think the 04 ski is the first year the SC's used the ceramic washers. If I am correct. You need to find out if the previous owner (PO) ha the SC rebuilt. I STRONGLY suggest that if he says yes younger paperwork that actually shows what was done.

If you are not familiar with the ceramic issue let us know and we will tell you the reasons these MUST be changed.

Yep, 04 had them.

Here is a bulb for you.

The update kit that is now available has an upgraded shat. If you get this kit it allows for 200 hours between rebuilds.

2004-2007 Seadoo supercharger assemblies from years 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 all had ceramic clutch washers, which are liable to explode under even ordinary use. Seadoo noticed the design flaw within the first two years and responded by adding material to the previous version of ceramic washers. The washer failure issues continued through 2006 and Seadoo issued yet another ceramic washer design for 2007. Needless to say, the washer failure issues continued through 2007 as well.

Thanks for the info. My buddy actually just gave me the washers a few days ago as he could not find them when I purchased the ski. He had purchased them with the intent to swap them out but never did. He is a very mechanically inclined person who takes great care of his things so I'm surprised he did not get to this. Luckily I trust the info he has shared so far and I have confidence in the maintenance history. Is the washer swap a difficult task? What about the rebuild? I went to a dealer the other day and just the shop hours are $109/hr! I am happy to do as much as I can on my own but I'm sure I will hit that wall at some point between lack of tools and knowledge.

Other members can give you some prices.

The fact he handed you the washers and you know him personally I would also go with what he has told you.

In your case, having over 100 hrs you need to do a regular (full) rebuild. Not just replace the washers.

My buddy and I work on the same Ladder truck as firefighters, so I hope if I can trust him with my life I can trust him with some parts and maintenance issues on a jet ski :)

What does the full rebuild involve? Any other major maintenance to be aware of besides fluids, oil, coolant etc? We have a long season here in south Texas so it will be a bit longer before I winterize the ski.

Here is what one kit shows. They vary a bit. But this is the basics.

The updated kit has an upgraded shaft as well.

Includes:

Support Plate

Four Pin Socket

Gear Holder Tool (16 & 17 tooth)

Shaft Holder Tool - UPGRADED

Bearing Support Pusher

Torx wrench

Metric Bolts for attaching SC to Support Plate

What have you found to be the best source of parts etc for your SeaDoo? There are tons of vendors and products but just looking for your personal experience.

Thanks

Being new to this forum I just read I should be posting these questions to a different spot. Thank you very much for your time and willingness to help get me started today.

I just moved it over to the 4-Tec forum and left a 30 day redirect so that you can still find it easily..
