I am new to Seadoos and 2 stroke engines in general. Purchased a 96 Speedster last week with some issues. Previous owner was upfront about problems and only had boat on water once this summer. Got a great deal on it and already knew I was going to have to put some work in it. I have been reading the service manual and this forum.

1. I drained all the old gas out of the tank. Cleaned out the fuel filters. New gas and took it out. Got up on plane once and then bogged and would not rev. I have put new plugs in, sprayed the carbs with cleaner and cleaned the spark arrestors. Going to take it back out this weekend and give it another go. I am planning on rebuilding the carbs this fall but am hoping to get a month of use out of them before I do.

2. The buzzer has been disconnected and some kind of bypass has been plugged in. When I re-connect the buzzer I get a long continuous beep. When I put the key in it beeps twice and then goes back to the continuous beep. Cause?

3. The wear rings are worn out. I have already read the great write up on how to replace and about to order a pair. Several choices on Ebay. OEM or A/M?

I'm sure I will have more questions later so patience with a newbie.

Welcome:

1) Spraying the carbs does nothing other than remove the paint. The carbs need to be disassembled, and cleaned properly. Also... the fuel is what transports the oil into the engine. DO NOT keep running the boat, if it's bogging. You will kill the engines. It's not worth trying to put off a proper rebuild.

2) The continuous beep is a over heat condition. One of the temp senders is probably bad. They are on top of the cyl heads. Disconnect one at a time to figure out which one it is. It is important to have it hooked up. The buzzer is a safety device. You don't want to cook an engine because it's not working. Also... there is no reason to "Bypass" the buzzer. If you don't want to listen to it... just unplug it.

3) Get them where ever you want. I recommend buying only OEM rings. They fit properly. The aftermarket rings are hit and miss. You may get a good one... or you may not.

I connected the buzzer and then disconnected each temp sensor wire one at a time and the buzzer still is continuous.

Hooked up hose to flush out. Ran the engines and appear to be getting a good fuel/oil mixture. Water flowing thru well. Think my previous problem was the little amount of bad gas left in the tank. Had a mechanic friend with me who has experience with 2 strokes and he thinks it is fine. Going to run again this weekend. Wear rings are being shipped to me today.

If you have a continuous beep with the senders disconnected... then you have a ground on the system. I would find it before you short something out. (like a very expensive MPEM)
