I purchased a 1995 XP earlier this summer. I know that these came from the factory with the 717 engine, but my ski has a 587 in it. I don't know why the engine was downgraded, but that doesn't really matter. It runs great, and I was just looking for something to go out and have fun with. After being outrun by another 95 XP with two riders on it I decided that I want to swap out the 587 for a new 717 over the winter. From the information I have gathered by looking around this website it seems that this won't be an extremely difficult thing to do. I just have a few questions.

Where can I find a new/rebuilt 717? What parts are compatible, and which ones aren't? What should I look out for?

Thanks for your help!

there are no new 717's anywhere. the problem you will have with a rebuilt is the builder will want a core motor. you don't have one. he won't want the 580. so, you need to spend the winter surfing ebay for a 720 motor. they get cheap in the winter. some rebuilders sell outright also. you also need a 720 exhaust, but you might still have it on your 580. you also need to see if you have the 720 carbs still. if not, somebody changed the throttle and choke cables, and you will hafta change them back.
