So let me start by saying I am new to the Sea Doo world and I am at a loss at the moment with the situation I am experiencing.
I purchased a 2001 GS 717/720 from a dealer after talking with the mechanic who took it on trade. He said that it was running fine when they took it but after winter there was an electrical issue and all that it needed was a new MPEM because traced power stopped at the box. I replaced the MPEM and was able to detect power (when i hooked up the battery it gave me a small chirp). However, when I hooked up the lanyard to the DESS post it began to beep continuously until i pressed the start button and then everything went silent. I took the lanyard off and back on to no avail (no beeps, no lights at guages, nothing). I disconnected the battery and reconnected to experience the same exact situation with the continuous beep once i connected the lanyard. The self diagnostic of pressing the start button 5 times does nothing. I thought it would be a bad DESS post. Replaced that, same situation. I went through and gave all the grounds and connectors a quick review and everything appears in good condition. I would like to note that with the battery connected, every time i disconnected a clip or detached and reattached a ground, i received a small chirp (not a beep) from the steering column. I am assuming this is letting me know there is sufficient power at these locations. All fuses are in good shape, front and back..
So i went to the solenoid. I jumped the solenoid with a screwdriver and began to hear a click/spinning sound coming from the Stator in front of the engine and the continuous beeping started up again (with lanyard connected). There was no cranking of the motor. I am waiting for a new solenoid in the mail but tend to think i have another issue at hand. Would a bad solenoid cause me to not get the desired two beeps and start?
I searched through multiple forums but have failed to find a situation like mine. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!!!!
