EGT Sensor melted

So we have been having problems with my father-in-laws jetski. He sucked up a bunch and grass and after some troubleshooting we found the EGT sensor melted off and laying in the hull. My question is will this let sea water fill the hull while riding? We have a leak that we cannot locate. I am assuming that he sucked up so much grass that it cut the water off and it got so hot that the sensor failed. I just don't know if water flows there. We had to replace the spark plugs as well. Took it out yesterday with the new plugs and all the power came back but got the P2080 code so the new sensor is on the way.

Thank you

If the sensor is melted and water still gets to the water box it will leak in the hull. If no water gets to the water box all your exhaust system will overheat and you will melt the exhaust hoses and/or resonator.

In other hand with melted sensor you will fill the engine bay with exhaust gases and choke the engine.

Non working EGT sensor will throw code.

You must make sure that all water line are clean and water flaws free.

Take the water lines off and blow them with compressor to make sure they are clean. Check the pump to make sure that there is nothing that can block the water.

I hope this will help you to solve the issue

Ok so you are saying that if the sensor melted off then we will get water in the hull correct? I removed the "stud" yesterday when we found it and ordered the new sensor. We have been having a problem with water in the hull and trying to find out its origin.

There is great chance that the water enters the hull trough melted sensor.

Keep in mind that if you just change the sensor without checking all the lines from the pump to the exhaust for obstruction you most likely are going to melt the new sensor

I should get high temp warning before the sensor melted. With sensor melted you should get error code for that sensor not working

What I want to say is that if you do not find the reason for sensor to melt and/or check all the water lines for obstruction the risk to melt the new one and do bigger damage is very high
