Quick question. just removed the driveshaft (was replacing the wear ring and impeller) and figured that it was time to check the carbon ring. now is the inner part of the carbon ring supposed to be the same diameter as the drive shaft? the carbon ring i have is WAY bigger then the drive shaft? is this how its supposed to be? or did the owner before me, rigg something up by using the wrong drive shaft? also got my carbon ring from my dealer we looked at the image to make sure it was the correct one...

got a 96 challenger 787.

ur good. Big end goes against the steel collar, other end gets collapsed insidet he boot.

Thanks now i see how the system works!

but now it seems that the shaft is not aligned correctly because the old carbon ring is wore out on one side? is there some time of way to align the shaft? or is this common?

The shaft shouldn't touch the carbon ring. So something is out of alignment. Look at the bellows or if the SS collar isn't seated. If not, the engine could be that far out of alignment - suspect you might see some wear on the driveshaft splines
