My Challenger 180 is moored, no cover, T-storms intermittent. My battery switch is off. Do I need to turn switch to on so bilge pump will function? I'm hoping it is on a by-pass as I like to keep the switch off to conserve battery.

If it is an OEM setup, then no.

It is wired direct to the battery and is fused.

So other than making sure it work you are good to go.

He's correct....

but, if you bought it used, who knows what the last owner did. ALSO, the "Auto" side of your pump (assuming a 3 wire style) has it's own fuse. SO... just because it's working on the switch, does not mean it will work when it's needed. It's best to check/test things on your own. An assumption on this point can mean a sunk boat.

I would double check to make sure. I assumed my 98 was wired that way and found the hard way that they even had the auto feature tied to the battery switch.
