Dirty Black Oil under Jet Pump

I had my 2003 Sea Doo GTI LE winterized at the dealer last fall. We are just getting around to putting it in the water and I noticed tonight dirty black oil under the jet pump. I feel the cone and it feels oily. Of course this dirty black oil is mixed with some antifreeze. I am wondering if they did not seal it properly and the oil has all leaked out? Maybe they just did a poor job of cleaning it last fall and that is the old jet pump oil. I am scared to put it in the water. What should I do? Anything I should look for? I have never taken that apart before, is it easy to do? I am two hours from the dealer. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Here's what I would do, remove the fill plug, if the oil is low top it off. Use 75w90 GL5 synthetic gear oil. To check for a leak, connect a pressure gauge, pressurize to 10psi, it should hold the pressure for 10mins.

If you don't have a gauge the only other option is to remove the cone, inspect or replace the "O" ring, use a little RTV sealer, replace the cone and refill.

Not trying to be a smart ass, but have you tried Youtube? They have how to videos on darn near everything known to man, or so I have "heard".

Mine is a 2003 and it has the reverse cowling and the jet jump seems to be tucked in further back than the ones in these videos. I will try and get it apart to check the oil level.

My GTX has a reverse cowling and I am sure yours is set up similarly. It is just a matter of disconnecting one more cable and removing two springs. Don't worry it's a piece of cake.

OK so after watching the videos it seems simple enough. I was wondering if I had oil in my bilge and when I tipped the sea doo up on it's trailer, would that somehow drain into rear area? Would starting the unit automatically start the bilge and disperse it out the back? I have started the unit twice for a brief period. I had rain water build up in the foot areas so I tipped it up to drain that and that if when I noticed the oil?

Ice,

I am not familiar at all with your model ski, so don't know if it is possible for anything to drain on the foot. I guess if the drain is there in the tunnel and you had oil in the bilge it would drain onto the foot.

On my XP the drain is straight out the back, on my GTX the drain is in the tunnel for the jet pump.

That's leaves the question.... is there oil in your bilge? Along with all this advise I am going to add something after re reading the original post.

Since the dealer only drained and replaced the oil they only needed to remove the cone and three screws that hold the cone on. Grab a flashlight in the morning and shine it inside the jet pump and look for any trace of oil leaking from the black cone or the vanes on the water pump.

Later,

Robert
