DESS Problem

96 Challenger - single 787.

Put key on post - no beeps. Push start button - 2 beeps.

Pull key. Push start button first - gauges come on, put key on post, 2 beeps.

Diagnostic mode - takes 6 pushes of start to get into diagnostic mode, every time.

I get 2 beeps, every time, if I push start first.

It's like the system is asleep until I push start once. Thought it was the post, but since it takes 6 pushes every time to get into diagnostic mode, I'm thinking it is something else?

Diagnostic does beep 2 shorts, can't read lanyard.

once you get into diagnostic mode... are you putting the lanyard on, and pushing the button one more time?

Yes. 6 pushes for short/long beeps, then put lanyard on, push again, get 2 shorts.

Seems I got this figured out, jumped the black/gold straight to ground and it works fine.

Did the post fix your problem? My challenger is doing the exact same thing, down to taking 6 pushes on the start to get into Diag. mode. I replaced the Battery and a New(not used) DESS post, Checked all fuses and still have the same issue you described above.
