I had a factory depth finder installed on my 16 gti130....I tried it for the first time and it doesn't seem to be working....It either isn't displaying anything or when it does it is way off......any ideas? Thanks!
They may have incorrectly cemented the sending unit on the hull bottom. Any air gap in there causes trouble like you're describing. So will turbulence under the hull. Did you try it while sitting still in several different water depths?
I have a factory unit on my GTX and works really well. I don't know where the sending unit is but if can locate yours maybe you can verify it's glued nice and flat to the inside on the hull.
They are not glued to the hull. The sit in a bracket at the back left. They are pretty simple to install the unit but the wiring has to modified at the fuse box up front.
There are 3 instances when a properly installed unit might not work properly: 1) when it's sitting on your trailer; 2) when you're going quickly on the water; and 3) when the water is too deep. Other than that, the wiring was probably done wrong and you should take it back to your dealer. Good luck.
When you set the unit in its holder you should have to give it a little muscle to get it to snap into place . If it snaps into place with little effort that means the transducers is not pressing tight against the pad and hull . I had this problem and after they moved it over a little on the slope of the boat where it goes , it even started reading 2' depths that it failed to do before .
