Hello. How is everyone doing? Good! It's been awhile but finally got time to work on this ski again. I've been busy looking for jobs and working on lawnmowers and weedeaters. Keeps me kinda busy and pays some bills until a job comes around. Anyways, I got the ski back home and am in the process of tearing it down. I can't get the tuned muffler to come apart for removal. I loosened up the clamp that holds the 2 sections together. They will just not come apart. Am I missing something here? Also, do I need to remove the bolts that hold the cylinder on the motor to get it out? Looks like I'm going to have to just cause of clearance issues. Not sure though. I know that yall have a lot more experience doing this than I do. First time I've ever done this. I'm going back out to work on it some more. Thanks for any and all replies.

You loosened the clamp? It needs to be completely removed. Make sure you have all the mounts unbolted. There should be some sealer between the two sections of the pipe. That could be holding things together as well. Good luck.

Yep... clamp off... bolts/nuts off... and give it a whack with the handle of a hammer. (or a soft mallet) That will pop any sealant.

I just removed the whole pipe from the muffler up to exhaust manifold. I still can't get it apart. LOL. It must be welded together. How exactly does this clamp come off? I loosened it all the way and I'm not sure if I need to put a pry bar under it and pop it off or what? Weird.
I got the cylinder off. I had to remove the bolts that hold it in. I seem to have messed up some O-rings in the process. I know I need new gaskets. Do I need new O-rings also? I had to use a razor to the the gasket off the mating surfaces. These things were really stuck on. It looks nice and clean down inside. I'm going to take some pics and see if I can post them up.

Take the nut all the way off the clamp. If need be, pry the clamp loose from the pipe, expand and remove. This should work unless someone used a different clamp or secured it in some other fashion.

on my 787 its a little different, but there is red RTV sealant in that joint, so you'll have to get that loose to separate the two. i gave mine a pull while banging on the pipe with a deadblow hammer. the deadblow put a bit of shock on the joint and got the seal broken without damaging the copper ring.

Do I need to? It came out in 1 piece. Now I need to find the oil line that goes to the intake manifold.

sometimes you can reassemble w/out splitting the pipe. on the XP it's easier. on the GTX, you really have to do things in the right order to pull it off....

I forget what I did. Anyways I'll post about what is wrong on the cylinder in another post. Took it to a machine shop today that specifies in these types of motors. I just want to get it running again.
