how do i diagnost if the crank seals on my seadoo are bad, whats a leak down test how do i get started.

Id try searching. Probably get some good results. I don't know all the details. I'd bet it's in a shop manual tho.

to do a leak-down... you plug off all the ports, and pressurize the engine with 10 PSI of air. THen... watch the gauge.

As above... the procedure is in the manual.

leak down test

You pressurize the carburetor pulse nipple located on the side of the case. Be sure to let air in slowly, you don't want to apply too much pressure all at once and blow your seals for sure. a way to do this is to use a pressure regulator. They can be obtained at most hardware stores in the air-compressor section.

Pressure

Like he said, put in 10 psi, no more. It should not leak down at all.

Leaking crank seals allow oil from the rotary valve chamber to leak thru them into the lower crankcase, this causes minor hydro lock, and major smoke at start up. The smoke clears after a minute or two when you've burned it up. You probably won't notice any additional smoke while running it, since the crank seal leaks pretty slowly.

Its possible that a leaking rotary shaft seal with do the same thing, but less likely.

NO!!!! you don't pressurize though the carb nipples !!!!!!

You put pressure in where every your leak down tool tels you.

To do a leak down, you will be removing your carbs, and your exhaust, and plugging off the ports. It's a specialized test, and takes the proper tools.

As said above... the procedure is in the manual.
