Could not install the new gas shock in the storage compartment - gtx 04

Hello Folks,

Just bought a new gas shock (269501625) to my GTX 04 SC.

Looks like it is the correct PN, which was upgraded some years after mine ski.

But i could not installed it, because even with the "hood" wide opened, the shock is a bit longer than the "drives".
I tried to shorten the shock by hand but is almost impossible, very hard to move it.

Someone has a tip on how to do it?

I know in cars, usually the manufacter sends the shocks compressed with a "lock" like a ziptie... Once you install you just cut the ziptie and thats ok. This one came from BRP/Seadoo but wide opened, and I was thinking it would fit if the hood was also wide opened.... but does not work.

Any tips will be very appreciated.

Remove the L shaped arm from where it connects to the hood just above the rubber boot this will allow the bracket to open up and you can install both ends of the strut. Once this is done the bracket has a slot or square hole in it for a 1/2" or 3/8" ratchet drive, insert a ratchet handle and use this to compress the strut then reinstall the L arm into the front hood.

How much did the strut cost from Seadoo ?

I had to replace the one on my 05 GTX earlier this year, I found a replacement strut at the local auto parts place that works great, looks identical to the old one and only cost $16.00.

Ebay and Amazon you can find at 50/60usd...

Here in Brazil, due the historical ultra high customs taxes, I paid 146USD....

I went to a local shock house dealer, and tried to find a similar one without success...
