I just got this 1997 sea doo xp. I was wondering if someone knew why the choke will not stay out when u pull it. Thanks

I believe that is the way it is designed by SeaDoo. I have a 97 GTX and have owned it since it was new. The choke has never stayed out and will go back in when you let go.

Yup... what the said.

If you are holding the choke, you shouldn't have to give it gas. If the idle is low... bring it up a little.

starting

My '98 GTX and even my '02 XP ALWAYS require choke and throttle to get going the 1st time. After warm only the starter...

I pop off my right shoe, pull the choke w/my foot, then I can throttle and use the starter at the same time. Between the 3 it fires right up...

it's a stupid design. My ATV has a choke you can set to ON 1/2 or OFF... much better design.
