I'm pretty positive this is/was my problem... This thing is burnt! The solder contacts are blackened, and you can see where it got so hot it discolored the circuit board inside. The Sea Doo would fire up fine, but sometimes would display "12V low" on the info center, and after awhile would start running poorly, dropping rpms, sputtering, etc at anything above idle. I REALLY hope this solves my problems!

I replaced it with a new one this evening, I haven't had a chance to test it out yet. Hopefully Wednesday!

Someone on another forum suggested the stator might have caused the rectifier to go bad, so I pulled it off. Here are some pictures of what I found. Tell me what you guys think. It's a lot cleaner in there than I was expecting, however I did find metal shavings on the pickup and the big round magnet on the flywheel. Also, if you look at the sides of the stator and the big round magnet it looks like they are touching, and it worn down on the sides. I'm assuming the metal shavings I am finding are off the side of the stator.

I'm pretty impressed, these pics were taken with my cell phone!

If you look at the areas where it's worn you can see that the whole area is brown - if it was shorting I would have thought that it would just have a single spot.
The central core is made from soft iron that has been surface treated to prevent corrosion but where it gets abraded off, it rusts (brown) and so as the ski sits it gets a light coat of rust and when it's started up, that rust gets thrown around inside.
Like the brake disks on a car.

The windings (gray wires) all look to be intact and in good condition.

You raise an interesting point. However, those brown spots on the end aren't dirt, they won't wipe off. I will take a better look at it tonight.

And wash your hands before you post more pictures of them :reddevil:

Actually, I wanted to thank you for posting those pictures.

This is one area of my engine that I have heard a lot about, but never been into and this thread clarifies my understanding of how that all works and what it looks like.

Good luck on the test drive!
