Hi I have a 97xp (great little ride) starting got progressively worst... sometimed when you pressed the starter button it would start other times only a click of the switch, now it never starts, started investigating and found water in the cdi box.... checked all the fuses, they seem ok, cleaned the connections, still nothing, have a good strong battery. I'm thinking testing the solenoid next... Any other ideas would be apprecated, thanks

update

jumped the solenoid with a screw driver and the starter starts, still guessing I need a new solenoid...checked online for a new one and found that that years (97) didn't look like mine....checked the number on the plate on the back of the hull and see that the last two numbers are 94...guess my doo is a 94, learn something every day (not sure why I thought it was a 97) lol

solenoid

checked voltage from small connectors, almost 12v when starter button is pressed but starter does not fire....any ideas?

Right there at the solenoid use the voltmeter to observe 12VDC going out to the heavy wire for the cranking motor, if your motor is flat top or newer tilted style check the black ground cable going to the motor/starter area - this is an area where water sits and makes this connection become corroded - clean well, dip the end in vaseline and put some on the bolts threads also.

voltage check

checked the voltage going out from the solenoid to the starter when starter is pressed (ground on battery neg terminal) zero...... ordered a new solenoid, hope it works, anything else it could be or any other ideas? thanks again

if you jumped the relay, and kicked over the starter, along with checking power going "out" from relay and registered 0, then ordering a relay was the right choice. or your start button is no good?

flooded cdi box

changed the solenoid and still a no go, noticed that my mpem is cracked, took it out and the bottom is melted.... not good, a friend down the street has a cdi box out of a 93 (580) wondering if it will fit into my 94xp (657) any help would be appreciated..thanks
