Greetings All!

Any help here is greatly appreciated. Recently, while my 2007 Seadoo GTX was idle in the water, the hull of the seadoo filled with water. I brought the machine ashore, filled water just above the shaft and seen water leaking from underneath the Seadoo. Pretty much tells me that is is a cabon ring issue (fell free to correct that assumption).

So, I am going to replace the carbon ring and looking for assistamce in this process (i have done lots of research before posting but could not find a clear process for replacing a carbon ring on an 07 GTX 4Tec). The research i have done says i have to remove the pump, etc and then remove the drive shaft to get at the carbon ring. Some posts state that i must have a special tool for the shaft? is this correct? what is that tool and is it vital to this process? If I am replcing the carbon ring, what else would need replacement?

Again, any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Cheers!
Phil

It's very difficult to nearly impossible to push the rubber accordian boot back by hand to expose the C-clip that locks the stainless steel ring onto the driveshaft. You cannot pull the driveshaft out while that C-clip is locked on... it's hidden beneath a collar on the stainless steel ring that's up against the front of the carbon ring.

We have threads on here describing different ways to lever that boot back so you can unclip the C-clip, some make ad-hoc tools out of a few pieces of lumber some use pry bars. Search on Carbon Ring and you should find the relevant posts.

Before you get into this though why don't you take the seat(s) off back it on trailer into the water at a boat ramp start the engine still on the trailer and take a look inside the hull to see if water is flowing in thru the carbon ring seal 1st? Make sure this is really where the water is coming from, ok? It's a bit of work to replace that carbon ring you want to be sure that's the problem!
