Carb rebuild kit question

Status
Not open for further replies.
I've done a lot of searching and can't seem to find complete answers, so here goes:

2001 GTX and 2000 GTI. Went through them couple of seasons ago with all new fuel line, cleaned out the selector, internal filters, etc but still had some stumbling/hesitation out of each late last season so looking to rebuild the carbs. I'd like to have everything I need up front so I can turn them around quicker.

Questions:

I know I should use the genuine Mikuni kits but I'm not positive who has them or what you guys recommend. I saw someone else on the forum say SBT, I tried to use the site sponsor but don't see where they offer the rebuild kits?

I also understand I need to get a popoff tester - I see where replacement springs are referred to, are these a standard part of the rebuild kit?

I also see where the accelerator pump diaphragm is listed as a separate item, am I correct to assume this is not included as part of the rebuild kit?

As for needle/seat replacement, is there any need to look at replacement?

Lastly, in addition to the carb base gasket, is there anything else you guys can suggest parts-wise that I would want to have in advance?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Thanks!
Mike C.

Parker Yamaha's website has everything you need. SBT does not have mikuni kits as far as i know

Parker has popoff testers too, that's where I got mine. It was around 50-60 I believe. You can also make one, but I was lazy and bought one. Theirs are good quality.

Yes the accel pump diaphragm is separate... Parker Yamaha

Needle/seat... I replaced mine because they're very cheap. I figured I might as well since I had the whole thing apart.

Additional things.... I also installed new main and pilot jets because they are also very cheap and it seemed easier than cleaning them

Thanks for reply! For the needle/seat I see a few different ones, how do I go about selecting the correct one?

For the jets, should I stick with sizes from manual or is there a better way?

Thanks again!

Go to sea-doo.net, select Tech Specs, go to the bottom under "technical specifications" and select your year then model, then hit Show Year/Model

It will show you what jets you need, your high/low speed screw settings, your popoff pressure, etc

I just realized they don't list needle/seat sizes

Maybe someone else with your ski model can comment on that... If you have them apart, it should list the size underneth (I THINK)

Off topic but on thread ...

Maybe should've started a new thread ... but this question may arise within this thread ..

My high speed needles have black plastic caps on em' they've busted off and fallen apart. Do I sink these screws till there at '0' or tight? Or was that spec designed with the plastic caps on them? If so anybody know where my hs screws should be without caps? May not be same carbs as Mike's got but they're all the same .. i've got the 787 with dual carbs and pump.

Thanks, and apologies if this is hijackin'

Cheers!

Both skis will use a 2.0 needle and seat. The 2000 GTI will need a pop-off of 36-40 psi, and the 2001 GTX 19-21 psi.

As said above... I don't think SBT sells actual Mikuni kits, but Parker will. You can email the site sponsor to find out what kind he sells. I don't recommend using an aftermarket kit. They are know to have hard starting issues because the pin or the diaphragm is not made right.

Yes... in both of your skis... they need an accelerator pump diaphragm. They are not part of the standard rebuild kit. Honestly... if your's ar pumping, they don't need replaced.

Finally... a good rule is to NOT replace the factory spring in the carb, unless it is damaged.

Good luck, and we will be here if you have anymore Q's.

You should start your own thread... but it's on the same line.

Yes, seat them with the caps off. When you set the needles, you take the cap off, make the adjustment, and then put them back on.

What ski is this on?

Thanks for replies!

One last question before I start spending $. :)

For the needle/seat, I see two 2.0 versions, one with a Viton tip and one with a metal tip. It appears that the parts diagram call for the metal version, but I wanted to be sure the Viton wasn't some sort of upgrade - I found a couple of posts recommending them but that was for snowmobiles...

On a side note, I just wanted to thank you people on here that spend a lot of time helping me and others like me. Your time and knowledge is appreciated!:cheers:
