Carb cleaning help!!!

Hey can anyone give me a step by step to removing my carbs and filters on a 1998 GSX Limited 951 so i can clean them? I know from riding yesterday that the carb filters HAVE to be filthy, atleast im hoping thats the problem!... thank you in advance for any help

I've got a thread on here somewhere about what happened.. but heres what happened....

got a new starter, flywheel over winter and it sat until the summer... when I'm riding it starts up as normal... starts pretty easy. now when I go out to ride if I hit full throttle it won't go above 3600 rpms it will go straight to it and stop and stay at around 3600...

if I ease onto it its just bogging and struggling the whole time then it will eventually get up to around 3600 again. every now and then if I let it idle for a minute or two then go full throttle it will LAUNCH perfect up to around 7000 rpms for a second then drop right abck down to 3600..

now if i mess with the choke for a few minutes kind of blip the throttle, mess with the throttle, it will eventually ride PERFECT. 62+ mph all day after it gets out of that weird beginning phase

oh yeah and the first symptom was at full throttle the rpms would go up and down continuously.. from around 6500 to like 6000 for a second or two each continuously

I got the airbox off... looking at the carbs how the HELL do i get these carbs off.. i can only see 2 big allen bolts which one is impossible to.. and the bottom ones too!? is there something i can just take off to get to the filters? AND what else do i need to dissasemble to get these damn carbs off thanks

There are 4 allen bolts, 1 on top and 1 on the bottom of each carb. You may need a mirror to help you see the bottom ones. Its tricky to get at them , but it can be done. Also you have to remove your Choke cable, throttle cables. Then unplug your fuel and oil lines.

I swear im on the verge of letting this damn thing roll down the street. hahaha It seems impossible to me to get these damn bollts out. especially with an allen. what a stupid design why not regular freaking bolts. i'll keep working on it but im getting nowhere. time for some beers to help do the job

any tips?

. Then unplug your fuel and oil lines.

you dont remove the oil lines...remove the o-ring on top of each carb, then use an allen wrench and if tight, get a wrench at the end of the allen wrench to give leverage.

wow thanks on the o ring tip.. i see the grooves now to give you the space to get to the bolts. gonna try some more w/ the rings off

2 BOLTS DOWN! jesus time for the bottom ones...

Got ALL the bolts down... thought that was impossible haha... okay guys need more help! how do I take off all these cables...

One of the 10mm nuts need to be loosened all the way out, look at the carb posting in snipes section for more detail where the inlet filter screens are at and how to clear out the grey fuel line goop.

lol...your a riot.

Alright, the fitting that had the fuel line attached to, your filter is on that side, and the pto carb(back carb), the filter is in the middle of the carbs..if that made sense. You have to atleast remove one of the carbs from the carb bracket. Do 1 carb atta tiem, dismantle, make 2-piles so your screws dont get meesed up, and clean away, then re-assemble, than do the next. If you cant remember the lsa/hsa settings(the "T" handle screw and the one that had the black cap on), give me a minute, and i'll post those settings. You wanna, when re-assembling, bottom them out, than count the turns...

LSA = 1&1/4...Has the "T" on it

HSA = 0mag(front carb), 1/4pto (back carb)

Hey thanks man I got both carbs back together and actually have it back in the ski.. I CAN'T FIGURE OUT how to get the throttle cables to set up correctly...

I had to take off the throttle cable little brackets that move on the carb to get the carbs out and now I dont know how to get it all back together..

If I can get this working correctly I think i'll be able to finish up!

the oil cable(small cable) goes on the bottom of the throttle plate, throttle cable on top...easier to install cables first, gas line, then hook carbs to manifold...

any other way to put that? haha I have the long cable connected and it reaches fine but then the short cable is just not even close to being able to reach to where it bolts on to that little holder w/ the 2 holders for each cable to bolt onto and stay

gotcha bud...locate the oil pump, its in the middle of the mag housing(front of motor), you'll need to spin the arm on it, around counterclockwise, to preload it. I think thats your problem.

STARTED UP! still gotta do some final throttle/choke adjustments but it started and throttled up when i hit throttle so looks good to me so far! I'll probably be posting tomorrow as to where to adjust everything but its 2 in the morning and i gotta get some sleep! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH couldn't have done it w/o you

Hey buddy just wanna say thank you again.. got the jet ski idling at 3000 rpms out of water so it looks to be all good! we'll see possibly tomorrow how it is out on the water. going to the dirt bike track all day today so can't make it to the lake...

one quick thing.. I can't get the bolt that holds in the choke cable on the front carb.. it just won't get tight and its in a crazy spot to really look at it or take it out and check it out, do I NEED the choke to be hooked up right now?? I usually don't touch it anyways exxcept on start up and I can still eventually start it w/o the choke... will it hurt anything w/ just ONE carbs choke working if I do pull the choke just by habit?

the carb itself actually looked real clean... the FILTERS on the other hand... haha pretty bad. they were SOLID BLACK i dont know how any fuel was getting through them at all

If you don't do a thorough clean-out of the fuel delivery system, they might fail first time out.

what might fail the first time out?? and what do you mean the fuel delivery system what exactly do I need to do? i had it running hooked up to the hose for a few minutes and it all seemed great
