I just bought a 96 SP and it has no gauges. I would like to add at least a fuel gauge. Can this be done?

no gauges at all?or it has been removed by the previous owner?are there any holes in the hood?you can install one guage beside the primer/choke.

Yes... you can add any thing you want. To add gauges to the SP... you will need a fuel gage, and the sender from the XP or XPI. Then... just wire it up. You can add the oil light too.

If you are going to do it... PM me. I have a basic seadoo fuel gauge going cheap. (it's in the classifieds section) I can even give you a schematic on how to wire it up.

Small step

I have a '96 SP....And I HATE GUAGES! You have an overheat buzzer, why ruin
everything? You need to open the seat to look for gas leaks, just look at tank. You
will Never run out of oil if you check it (by looking above GT) every month. I put a
720 in mine and I have half a tank at days end. Bells & whistles are worrysome not
needed items that the ski sells for more. Today bigger & more is NOT better. You
have a ski that is SO easy to maintain. Parts are So cheap, SO plentiful. You have
probly the Best ski you will ever own, a gas sipper. Bills86e

If you are intent, the bafel & guage, and guage harness that works (with mpem 278000821)is an '96 spi, or '95 spx. You will use E-box position 5. Now you would ALSO need the oil tank sender, the guage has a Dummy lite. It comes on Orange colored. Bills86e

In a way, I tend to agree. With the addition of the "bells and whistles", not being experienced in engines, will make you worry more-so than you should. It might even cause you to end up at a shop to have them determine why the alarm/light is on.

I have two Seadoo's, one boat, one ski. The boat has one alarm, that's the temperature alarm. That's fine with me, because I'm not constantly looking at the "tale-tell" stream all the time.

But, the GTX has the info center that has a blinking "maint" light in it. The blinking "maint" light can be nothing more than just a low amp battery. To the untrained eye, it could make you worry to the point that you take it to a shop.

I have fuel gages on both and like you said, dont' really need them. Even having them, I find myself looking at the tanks anyway; especially the oil tank.

When I used to build my own 350 cu.in motors, I only used 3 gages. The oil pressure, water temp and voltage. Those three told me everything about how my 4 stroke motor was running. So, to much electronic jumbo can make you nervous for no reason..... especially if it's nothing but a loose wire.
